The mailbox for things I want to say.
Tra Van Ethnic Boarding Junior High School has 8 classes with 257 students.
The school's student union has implemented the "Suggestion Box for What I Want to Say" model, allowing students to express their opinions, thoughts, feelings, ideas, or concerns about their studies, activities, and daily lives.
Every Friday, Mr. Nguyen Hong Xuyen, the school's Head of the Youth Union, opens the "Letter Box for What I Want to Say" located in the Youth Union room. Through these small letters, the school administration and teachers not only listen to the students' thoughts and feelings but also help them find solutions, contributing to increased self-confidence and the ability to express themselves.
This seemingly simple activity has become an important bridge between teachers and students, helping to spread the voices of students in mountainous areas, while simultaneously nurturing a sense of responsibility, courage, and a desire to excel.
Teacher Nguyen Hong Xuyen shared that the "Speech Box" model was established in the 2020-2021 school year. Initially, the students were quite shy, only daring to look but not to write, and the mailbox remained largely empty. However, thanks to the encouragement and dedicated guidance of their teachers, the students gradually became more confident, recording their thoughts and expressing their wishes, from small issues like daily schedules and school supplies to suggestions for making the classroom more fun and cohesive.
Ho Thi My, a student in class 9/1, shared: “Thanks to the suggestion box, I have gradually become more confident in expressing my thoughts. Before, I used to keep my worries and difficulties in studying to myself, but now I can share them frankly with my teachers. Every time I receive advice or encouragement, I feel more confident and understand that my voice is also important. These activities help me feel more connected to and love my school even more.”
Over the past five years of implementation, based on seemingly simple suggestions from students, the school has improved many aspects of its boarding program, such as adjusting the daily schedule to be more reasonable, supplementing learning materials, and improving the quality of meals.
In addition, learning activities become more effective because teachers listen to student feedback and adjust teaching methods to suit the needs and abilities of the students.
This model not only helps students develop their ability to express their opinions and become more confident, but also gradually creates a friendly and welcoming educational environment where each student feels their voice is valued and their self-worth is recognized.

The school understands the thoughts and aspirations of each student, and as a result, every staff member, teacher, and employee enhances their sense of responsibility and strives to improve themselves in their teaching work as well as in their daily lives.
Mr. Ngo Dinh Cuong, Deputy Principal of Tra Van Ethnic Boarding Junior High School, shared: “The 'Suggestion Box' model is an important bridge between students and teachers, as well as between the school and families. Every week, the school's management board, along with teachers and the Head of the Youth Union, directly open the mailbox, read, and address students' opinions. Confidential and sensitive letters are handled separately, ensuring privacy between the school and the students themselves, creating a learning environment that is both serious and friendly.”
Create a friendly educational environment.
To raise awareness and responsibility among students regarding children's rights and responsibilities, the Youth Union of Tra Van Ethnic Boarding Junior High School organized many activities to disseminate information about the Children's Law to its members from grades 6 to 9.
Through innovative models such as the Children's Rights Club, the Young Pioneers Propaganda Team, and the Young Pioneers Broadcasting Team, students have the opportunity to express their voices, aspirations, and responsibilities towards their school, family, and society.
During the boarding school program, the school organizes discussions with teachers, allowing students to express their thoughts and opinions about their studies, daily life, and the school environment. This also helps the school administration understand students' feelings and make appropriate adjustments to create a friendly educational environment.
Following the program, the school also organized monthly birthday celebrations for the students. The atmosphere became warm as teachers and friends sent wishes, shared joy, and encouraged the students who had birthdays in the month.
Models such as the "Speech Box," dialogue sessions, and awareness campaigns about children's rights have become strong bridges between students, teachers, and the school. From these small steps, each student is gradually maturing, becoming more confident, and moving towards a bright and hopeful future.
