Provincial leaders survey agricultural seed centers and farms

STO - On October 25, Comrade Vuong Quoc Nam - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Soc Trang province organized a delegation to survey the centers and breeding farms under the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Soc Trang to evaluate the production and business activities at the above units. The delegation included Comrade Huynh Ngoc Nha - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Soc Trang; leaders of the People's Committees of Tran De and Chau Thanh districts.

The first destination of the delegation was the Aquaculture Experimental Farm, Thanh An 3 Hamlet, Thanh Thoi Thuan Commune, Tran De District. The next destination was the Livestock Experimental Farm, Tra Canh A2 Hamlet, Thuan Hoa Commune, Chau Thanh District. Currently, the two units are facing some difficulties in terms of facilities serving the breeding farm, because the facilities have been degraded over many years of operation, some areas of the barns have been damaged, affecting the process of raising livestock; security and order have not been well ensured; diseases in livestock have persisted; and the pond system is still limited.

The manager in charge of the farms proposed to the provincial leaders to consider supporting infrastructure investment for the farms, in order to develop the cattle and pigs being raised at the farms, contributing to creating a more open farming environment. Support some ponds to complete equipment for the pilot farms to raise new aquatic species according to the complete farming process before deploying to households.

Comrade Vuong Quoc Nam highly appreciated the seed production activities at the Aquatic Seed Experimental Farm and Livestock Seed Experimental Farm. Although the farms still face difficulties in terms of infrastructure, unusual weather conditions, and complicated livestock diseases, the experimental farms operate very effectively, with stable output of seed. Comrade Vuong Quoc Nam also requested the experimental farms to continue to maintain the production of quality seed, supply them to households, and research some new species on land and in water, in order to provide guidance for households to intercrop aquatic species for sustainable aquaculture development.

* On the afternoon of October 25, comrade Vuong Quoc Nam - Provincial Party Committee member, Vice Chairman of Soc Trang Provincial People's Committee visited the Plant Varieties Experimental Farm, Bung Tuc Hamlet, Ke Thanh Commune, Ke Sach District.

According to the manager of the Experimental Plant Breeding Farm in Ke Sach district, most of the rice varieties produced by the farm are trusted by farmers and purchased for cultivation. Currently, the farm's difficulty is that the farm's facilities are degraded and damaged, so it is proposed to the provincial leaders to have investment capital to support the construction of roads for loading and unloading goods at the farm; essential works to serve the process of producing seedlings, and to better supply seeds to farmers.

At the Soc Trang Agricultural Seed Center Office, Hamlet 1, Ward 4, Soc Trang City, the unit displays and sells rice varieties, aquatic varieties, and plant varieties produced by the unit. According to the unit's leaders, in the first 9 months of 2023 alone, the center supplied 1,230 tons of various rice varieties; sold 5 boars for semen; sold 6 Brahmin cows; supplied 600,000 whiteleg shrimp seeds; 790,000 tiger prawn seeds; nearly 2 million goby fish seeds; 404,000 crab seeds; 11,040 eel seeds...

Comrade Vuong Quoc Nam praised the Ke Sach District Plant Seed Experimental Farm and the Soc Trang Agricultural Seed Center Office for producing seeds and seedlings to provide to consumers without intermediaries, significantly reducing the cost of purchasing seeds and seedlings for people. Comrade Vuong Quoc Nam requested that farms and centers under the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development continue to maintain the production of rice and crop varieties that ensure quality and high productivity to provide to people. At the same time, manage business activities at the center well, in order to contribute to generating income, helping to reproduce plant and livestock varieties more effectively...
