Established in 1989, the Hoi An Museum is a historical and cultural museum that showcases the history and cultural traditions of the land and people of Hoi An.
The museum displays 335 artifacts and documents related to the history and culture of Hoi An throughout various periods: pre- and early history (2nd century and earlier); Champa (2nd - 15th centuries); and Dai Viet (15th - 19th centuries).
In particular, the exhibition features numerous documents and artifacts from the Dai Viet period (from the late 15th century to the mid-19th century), showcasing Hoi An's role as an international trading port in Dang Trong - Vietnam and the entire Southeast Asian region.

The Hoi An Museum is designed with four floors, a construction area of 970m² , and a total usable area of 2,245m² . It is open every day of the week and annually welcomes nearly 70,000 domestic and international visitors for sightseeing and research.
Over time, many items at the Hoi An Museum have shown signs of deterioration and have not been effectively utilized due to functional limitations and unsuitable interior and exterior designs. Construction, repair, and upgrading of these structures and items face difficulties in securing investment capital.
Vice Chairman of the Hoi An City People's Committee, Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, instructed the Hoi An Museum to prepare all necessary documents and procedures for presentation at the upcoming city meeting; and to advise city leaders on the appropriate allocation of budget resources.
At the same time, the museum needs to clarify the urgency and scale of investment to propose appropriate funding allocation for the construction, repair, and upgrading of many important items, aiming to preserve and develop tourism in the city.
