With the strong development of the internet, along with social networking platforms that have covered all areas from the plains to remote villages, cyber fraudsters can reach people anywhere.

Chị em phụ nữ người Dao ở xã Cốc Mỳ, Bát Xát chia sẻ các thông tin cảnh báo lừa đảo vào hội nhóm để tránh sập bẫy.
Dao women in Coc My commune, Bat Xat share information warning of fraud in groups to avoid falling into traps.

Ms. Ban Thi Nga, a Dao ethnic person in Khe Cam village, Cam Con commune, Bao Yen district, said: “I just stay at home but still often receive calls informing me that I have won prizes, received gifts, been invited to travel for free, and even been notified by the Court to be prosecuted for being involved in a fraud ring. However, through the zalo group of the women in the village, we all know that these are scams, so we are all very vigilant.”

Currently, in residential communities in Lao Cai province, women often form groups to share information, including warnings about tricks and fraud through social networks, so that women can grasp and raise their vigilance to avoid them.

Ms. Ly Thi Van in Ban Trang village, Coc My commune, Bat Xat district, shared: “Every time we see information online about online scams, we share it by posting it on our personal pages, sharing it in groups and communities so that everyone knows, thereby raising their vigilance when being approached by scammers. Because nowadays, even though we live in remote areas, scammers can still approach us through social networks. If we lose our vigilance, we can easily fall into their traps.”

However, nowadays, scammers are very sophisticated. Every time their scams are exposed and brought to public attention, they come up with new, more sophisticated tricks. For example, recently, Ms. Hoang Thi Luu, in Xuan Quang commune, Bao Thang district, received information that an item was shipped to her from an acquaintance and asked her to pay the shipping fee of 70,000 VND and wait to receive the goods. After Ms. Luu checked, it was true that she had ordered the item from a friend in Yen Bai . However, because she saw the request to pay the shipping fee first and then receive the goods later, Ms. Luu called her friend in Yen Bai to clarify. The friend said that her Facebook account was hacked, so they knew Ms. Luu's information through previous inbox chats between the two. So the scammers contacted Ms. Luu to ask her to transfer money first and receive the goods later.

After clarifying that this was a trick of scammers on the internet, Ms. Luu shared this information on the group to warn other women so that if they fall into a similar situation as her, they can recognize and avoid it.

Hội LHPN tỉnh Lào Cai thường xuyên đăng tải thông tin nhận diện lừa đảo để tuyên truyền lan tỏa đến các cơ sở hội và các chị em phụ nữ, hội viên trên toàn tỉnh.
Lao Cai Provincial Women's Union regularly posts information on identifying scams to spread to association bases and women and union members across the province.

Ms. San Tho Mo, President of the Women's Union of Y Ty Commune, Bat Xat District, said: “One of the activities of the Women's Union at all levels in Lao Cai is to propagate fraud prevention on social networks, so we regularly propagate to our members and women to be vigilant against information and calls from strange numbers to avoid falling into fraud traps. In particular, do not post personal information on social networks, do not access strange links on the internet. Always be alert and carefully research information before accessing services on social networks, thereby creating a habit of being vigilant against scammers."

Currently, the Lao Cai Provincial Women's Union also regularly posts and shares information warning of fraud, from which the Union branches widely share it with all female members and women in the province, to gain experience and knowledge in identifying fraudulent information and the most effective ways to prevent it, said Ms. Duong Thu Thuy, Head of the Propaganda - Legal Policy Department, Lao Cai Provincial Women's Union.
