Tran Quoc Cong Bui Ta Han was from Chau Hoan, Nghe An (born 1496) in a family of famous scholars. He was famous as a general with both intelligence and bravery. After the Le dynasty weakened and lost the throne in 1527, he followed the former Le dynasty official Nguyen Kim, promoted the Can Vuong movement, restored the Le dynasty, and made many contributions.
In 1545, he was appointed by the Le Dynasty as the Northern Army Admiral, leading troops to pacify the border of Quang Nam, the land from Da Nang to Phu Yen today. He was appointed by King Le as the governor of Thua Tuyen Quang Nam, and was given the title of Tran Quan Cong in 1546.
From here, Quang Nam land became more and more stable and prosperous. It was a solid support for Lord Nguyen later. He died in the year of Mau Thin 1568. The Bui people built a temple for him on Ong mountain, then moved it to Lang forest, now in group 10, Quang Phu ward, Quang Ngai city.
In recognition of Bui Ta Han's achievements, later feudal dynasties honored him and bestowed many royal decrees. In 1990, the tomb and temple of Tran Quoc Cong Bui Ta Han were ranked as a national historical and cultural relic. Every year, on the 15th day of the 5th lunar month, descendants of the Bui clan from all over the country gather on his death anniversary.
Many precious artifacts are still preserved here, such as the more than 450-year-old wooden statue of Tran Quoc Cong Bui Ta Han, many royal decrees (23 royal decrees) posthumously recognizing his merits and virtues, from the kings Canh Thinh (Tay Son Dynasty) to the kings of the Nguyen Dynasty; many parallel sentences of Confucian scholars, intellectuals, and provincial officials dedicated to the people, commemorating and showing gratitude.
The title Tran Quoc Cong honoring Bui Ta Han is not only a recognition of the royal court, but also the admiration and respect of the people of Quang and the entire South Central region for him. In recent times, Quang Ngai province has paid attention to investing in renovating and restoring the architecture of the tomb and temple, expanding the landscape of the relic to become more spacious.
At the same time, collect and display a number of documents, artifacts, and images related to his life and achievements, contributing to preserving, conserving, and promoting the value of the relic to be worthy of the stature and great contributions of Tran Quoc Cong Bui Ta Han to his homeland and country. Create favorable conditions for people inside and outside the province to visit and commemorate.
