More than 100 activities taking place during the festival, more than 1,000 creative works... create a colorful "party" for the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024 called "Creative Intersection."
In early winter days in Hanoi, at many famous locations, the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024 called "Creative Crossroads" took place. All Festival activities are community-oriented and open to everyone.
There are up to 35 exhibitions and displays; 21 community activities; 19 performances, performances and fairs held along the route.
Large scale, novel light show
More than 100 activities taking place during the festival, more than 1,000 creative works with the contribution of over 500 creative design practitioners, experts, support teams, and the response of creative spaces and creative activities spread across districts, towns and cities of Hanoi have created a colorful "party" for the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024 called "Creative Intersection."
After visiting the creative spaces on the morning of November 10, Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong highly appreciated the efforts of the Organizing Committee and the creative community at the Creative Design Festival 2024.
The Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee said that the exhibitions, events, and discussions in the festival contribute to improving people's spiritual lives and attracting tourists to Hanoi.
With a large scale, organized for the first time on a pilot basis along 7 typical historical heritage works of the Capital, the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024 is a solution to activate creative potential in the community. The festival focuses on three pillars: Design-Community-Creativity.
The festival area is August Revolution Square, connecting the "Heritage Essence" axis of Ly Thai To-Le Thanh Tong street; the "Creative Economy " axis of Bac Co slope-Trang Tien street, including outstanding architectural works such as: Children's Palace, National Museum of History, University of Natural Sciences and cultural spaces: Hoan Kiem Lake, 5 flower gardens: Ly Thai To, Dien Hong, Co Tan, 19/8, Tao Dan.
On the first day of the festival, creative spaces and exhibitions at the old University of General Sciences (now the University of Natural Sciences - Vietnam National University, Hanoi) and the Children's Palace... attracted a large number of people, especially young people. The old University of General Sciences building complex became an ideal destination for those who love heritage, art and creativity. People lined up in the hallway waiting for their turn to admire the exhibitions and architectural beauty of this building.
Ms. Thu Ha (Hoang Mai district, Hanoi) shared: "Passing through the gate, I was amazed by the ancient French architecture from hundreds of years ago, the high arched roof design and the iron door with many motifs exuded luxury. The patterns have a unique European and Asian style. The arrangements and lighting are very beautiful and attractive."
According to artist Nguyen The Son, lecturer of visual arts at the School of Interdisciplinary Sciences and Arts, Hanoi National University, at first glance, this building looks like a French neoclassical building, but if you look closely, the motifs and decorative details are all from traditional Vietnamese fine arts. From the lotus pedestal, lotus vines, swastika, eight treasures... all are stories closely associated with traditional Vietnamese fine arts. It can be said that this is something worth learning about, Indochina fine arts are interwoven with the story of European culture and science.
The exhibition has honored this architecture as a work of art. The special highlight of the old University building is the interactive art exhibition complex called "Indochina Sensation," with 22 installation works and light performances. This is a giant complex that brings together the creations of artists and designers. The artists use many modern installation technologies to "tell" the beauty of the past, helping the public to perceive multidimensionally and multi-sensorily about Indochina art and architecture. The exhibition recreates the old feelings of Indochina art, through diverse works of art combining sound, images and light.
Connecting Generations
Chosen to host the main activities of the Festival, Hanoi Children's Palace has many activities attracting the interactive participation of young people. That is the pavilion "Children's Corridor" which becomes a space for connection, creating conditions for both children and adults, different generations to have the opportunity to play, to see the exhibition, to learn, to chat and interact.
The exhibition "Breathing Space - Time's Trace" combines film screenings, videos and installations related to architecture to create a special visual experience, bringing viewers thoughts about life, the past and the good values that once existed.
Or "Hanoi Children's Palace: Nostalgia for the future" includes creative activities such as installations, creations, symbolic works, exhibitions, film screenings, and art performances.
Coming to the creative space at Hanoi Children's Palace, there are many children participating in drawing on the yard or playing in the sand along the "Innocent Corridor."
Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan (Hang Gai street, Hoan Kiem district) shared: "Although it was sunny, the children had a lot of fun playing, and even the adults played childish games like reliving their childhood, sliding on the sand and falling flat on their faces, but still enjoyed it. The Children's Palace has rarely had games for many years, this festival has made this place come alive.
Ms. Van Do, Curator of the exhibition "Nostalgia for the Future" said: "We hope to contribute to an important historical space with the memory of Hanoi city with perspectives, meaningful and unique works of art, and want to share with many people. Moreover, we want to participate in contributing ideas on how to preserve and continue the heritage to preserve the values that need to be preserved for the future."
From an empty room with a few simple items such as a table, a chair, a ladder, a string... the contemporary artist group Nguyen Quoc Thanh has installed a loom as a common space (workshop) for people to come and learn how to weave, embroider, repair old clothes... manually.
"What I focus on is not what I will make, but the whole process of making it. During the process, I will experience the art of time, color, material... Weaving with everyone is very important," Nguyen Quoc Thanh shared.
On November 10, many activities took place at the Vietnam National Museum of History, such as the "Twenty-Nine" fashion show and the talk "Using folk cultural materials in creativity." In addition, the outdoor exhibition area with the theme "Dragon and Snake in the Clouds" introduced models of the Vietnam National Museum of History made from various materials such as wood, ceramics, porcelain, etc., attracting a large number of visitors.
The Tonkin Palace, which used to be the Palace of the Governor of Tonkin and then the Palace of the Imperial Envoy of Tonkin, marking the first general uprising to seize power in Hanoi in 1945 and the liberation of the capital in 1954, has been transformed into a special creative space. This unique architectural space is open to visitors for the first time during the Festival (from November 9-17).
Among the main activities of "Creative Crossroads", it is impossible not to mention notable seminars and workshops such as: Artificial intelligence and architectural design; Cu Li never cries: Thinking about the city as a movie character; Human memory and artificial intelligence - The role of technology in heritage preservation; Tradition seen from the perspective of contemporary architecture; Architectural heritage in creative cities...
According to Ms. Bui Thi Thanh Huong, Deputy Editor-in-Chief in charge of Architecture Magazine (the co-organizer of the Festival), in addition to evoking heritage values familiar to Hanoians, this year's Festival also hopes to awaken the creative spirit of the community.
An important message is: The festival is not only for artists, but for all Hanoians, let's join hands and create our own festival. Interestingly, the festival has created a resonance in the community, not only attracting creative designers but also attracting individuals and organizations from many fields and professions. This is a prominent difference of the festival./.
