After the 0-3 defeat of the Vietnam national team against Indonesia in the 2nd qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup, VFF and Mr. Philippe Troussier met to discuss the working process as Head Coach of the Vietnam national team and the Vietnam U23 team that night.

At the meeting, VFF and Coach Philippe Troussier agreed to terminate the contract from March 26, 2024.

According to official information from VFF, Coach Philippe Troussier thanked the active support and assistance from the players, clubs, VFF as well as the fans. He also apologized to Vietnamese fans because the team's performance did not meet expectations.

VFF acknowledges the efforts and contributions of Mr. Philippe Troussier in the recent past, when he always worked with a high sense of responsibility and professionalism in his work.

Along with that, VFF apologizes to domestic football fans because the achievements of the Vietnamese team in the past have not met the set goals, and hopes that fans will continue to place their trust and support in Vietnamese football in general and the national football teams in particular.

Coach Troussier signed a contract to lead the U23 teams and the Vietnam National Team in March 2023, under a contract that expires on July 31, 2026. However, after 1 year of leading the Vietnam team, Coach Troussier has the highest failure rate in history, with a record of 10 losses in the last 11 matches, including 7 consecutive losses, including 6 losses in official tournaments such as the 2023 Asian Cup and the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

On the FIFA rankings, Vietnam also dropped out of the top 100. After two consecutive losses to Indonesia, the Vietnamese team was deducted a total of 30.04 points, dropping to 115th in the world./ .
