Liverpool draw with Man City, Arsenal keep top spot in Premier League

The top spot in the Premier League after round 28 depends on the result of the match between Liverpool and Man City. After 2 halves at Anfield, Arsenal is the team that benefits.

Liverpool entered the match with a patchwork lineup. Mohamed Salah recovered from injury but did not start. However, the home team still played on par with, and at times even dominated, Man City.

Liverpool and Man City started the game fiercely, playing fast and creating an attractive game right from the first minute. In a match where high-speed moves took place continuously, the goal came from a moment of carelessness of both sides' defense.

Taking advantage of a moment of distraction during Liverpool's corner kick defense, Man City opened the score in the 23rd minute. This was also a deliberate combination of the away team.

Nathan Ake blocked a Liverpool player, creating space at the near post for John Stones to run in and meet Kevin De Bruyne's low pass. The Liverpool goalkeeper was unable to stop Stones' close-range tap-in.

After conceding the goal, Liverpool attacked relentlessly. The home team's pressure caused Man City to make a mistake right at the beginning of the second half.

Ake passed the ball back carelessly. Darwin Nunez was one step ahead of the Man City goalkeeper and was fouled in the box. Alexis Mac Allister converted the penalty to equalize for Liverpool. Ake's mistake cost Man City even more when goalkeeper Ederson was injured and had to leave the field.

The match continued to be exciting in the remaining time. Liverpool created more chances, especially when Salah was brought on. Man City did not control the midfield area and were somewhat inferior, but they also had regretful moments when the ball hit the post and the crossbar.

Liverpool tried to attack until the last minute and continuously made Man City's defense struggle. Controversy occurred in the last minute of extra time when the referee and VAR did not award Liverpool a penalty after a collision between Jeremy Doku and Mac Allister.

The match ended 1-1. Liverpool lost the top spot. They are level on points with leaders Arsenal but behind on goal difference. Man City are close behind in third place, just one point behind the two teams above them.
