A breakfast restaurant that sells 7 different dishes every day, a broken rice restaurant with braised egg yolk that has been around for more than half a century, a noodle restaurant that is only staffed by women and is crowded at odd hours… are restaurants that are loved by many diners in Ho Chi Minh City not only because of the delicious food, but also because of the stories of the funny single female owners.
1. 7-day, 7-dish restaurant, over 30 years of experience
Located deep in alley 198 Duong Ba Trac street, Chanh Hung ward (HCMC), every morning the restaurant of Aunt Nam, the common name of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ha (61 years old) is always full of customers coming and going. People in the alley often say that they don't need to go far when they wake up in the morning because when they open the door, there is a delicious restaurant in front of their house, with a fragrant aroma.

Aunt Nam’s restaurant has no sign, only about 2 tables and a dozen plastic chairs placed in front of the house. That is also the reason why people often tease each other “the restaurant is always full”. Most of the customers here are people living in the alley and nearby, some have been regulars for more than 30 years, so just come and sit, no need to order, the owner already knows what she wants.
A famous restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City with a style of selling 7 different dishes a week, mainly soup dishes such as beef noodle soup, crab noodle soup, duck bamboo shoot noodle soup, fish sauce noodle soup, beef noodle soup, beef stew... Many customers love the restaurant not only because of the delicious food, but also because of the hospitality and cheerfulness of the owner.

Having no husband or children, this restaurant is her “family”, the greatest happiness that Aunt Nam has built in her whole life. Besides the main chef, there is also a younger brother and a sister-in-law helping out. Every day the restaurant opens from 6am until it is sold out.
2. Broken rice with braised egg yolk for more than half a century, customers have eaten for… 3 generations
Admitting that she is "single" because she is over 70 years old and still unmarried, however, Mrs. Nam's broken rice restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City has rarely had any customers for over 50 years. Many families have been eating broken rice here for 3 generations because Mrs. Nam, whose real name is Diep Thi Ngoc Anh, has a secret to keeping customers.
Mrs. Nam’s broken rice restaurant is nestled on Tan Canh Street, Tan Son Hoa Ward , in a peaceful and cool atmosphere. Mrs. Nam said that her mother opened this restaurant before 1975 to support her children.
When she was young, Mrs. Nam dropped out of school to help her mother sell rice. At first, it was just a street-side rice stall without a sign. The owner recalls that at that time, in addition to broken rice, her mother also sold other types of sticky rice to earn extra money to make ends meet.

Many customers jokingly call Mrs. Nam the funny single owner because at this age, she is still single, without husband or children. When asked about this story, the owner confided that, when she was a girl, she had many suitors.
“However, due to circumstances, I have to give up my own happiness to take care of my family and siblings. I am happy and satisfied with life because my siblings now have stable lives. My joy every day is selling rice to my customers, that is enough,” the owner smiled.
Broken rice here, eaten with ribs, fried eggs, pork skin, ham, sausage, Chinese sausage, soft-boiled eggs, pickles, shredded cucumber... and a little sweet and sour fish sauce is a wonderful combination.
3. The noodle shop of the "female generals"
Aunt Mai's noodle shop, which has been around for over 30 years and is located in Khanh Hoi ward (HCMC), is often jokingly called by customers as the shop of the "female generals", as it is served entirely by aunts and ladies.
Nestled in a small alley on Nguyen Huu Hao Street, the noodle shop of Aunt Mai, whose real name is Nguyen Thi Mai (69 years old), a single, cheerful woman, is still a familiar destination for many diners who love this dish in Ho Chi Minh City.

Aunt Mai introduced that the shop was opened more than 30 years ago, when she was over 30. Among countless jobs, the reason the owner chose to sell this dish is simply because: "Aunt Mai likes it, so Aunt Mai sells it!", there is no special reason.
Aunt Mai lives alone, has no children, and has been running this shop with her youngest sister and two female assistants for nearly a dozen years. Everyone here considers each other as a family, helping each other with business and making a living.
