Long An
possesses immense potential. Located in the Mekong Delta region, Long An has significant tourism resources, especially in nature tourism, based on the scenic values and diverse ecosystems characteristic of the Dong Thap Muoi area and the Vam Co River system. Long An also boasts many famous traditional crafts, unique folk cultural festivals, and biodiversity with diverse plant and animal species. Long An is also attractive to tourists due to the humanistic values of the Oc Eo culture, a culture that developed in the Mekong Delta from the 1st to the 6th centuries AD. Furthermore, Long An is a locality rich in revolutionary traditions, culture, and history, with 125 historical and cultural relics, architectural sites, artistic landmarks, and archaeological sites. Of these, 21 are national-level relics and 104 are provincial-level relics. Long An's tourism development resources include agricultural products that have become brands, associated with each locality in the province, such as Nang Thom rice from Cho Dao market in Can Duoc district, Long Tri red watermelon, dragon fruit in Chau Thanh district, pineapple in Ben Luc district... Especially due to its proximity to Ho Chi Minh City. Long An province,
located near Ho Chi Minh City , has favorable conditions to become a satellite tourist destination of the country's largest tourism hub, offering various types of tourism including ecotourism, entertainment, weekend getaways, and rural tourism. Currently, the province has 330 tourist accommodation establishments with 5,040 rooms, including 55 hotels (6 of which are 2-star hotels with a total of 169 rooms, 1 one-star hotel with 10 rooms), and 252 other tourist accommodation establishments meeting minimum requirements for infrastructure, technical facilities, and services. Over the past period, the province has continuously improved the quality of tourism services to create momentum for breakthroughs. The average growth rate of the province's tourism industry has reached over 20% per year. In 2022, Long An attracted 650,000 visitors, an increase of 88% compared to the same period and 54% compared to the plan. In the first six months of 2023, the province attracted 362,300 visitors, a 54% increase compared to the same period in 2022. The province aims to attract 2.5 million domestic tourists and 30,000 international tourists by 2025, with an average annual growth rate of 30% of total visitors, and total tourism revenue exceeding 2 trillion VND.
Developing unique tourism products: With the orientation of developing tourism into a key economic sector of the province, developing unique tourism products is the shortest path for Long An to create its brand and assert its local image. In recent years, Long An province has implemented many solutions, especially mobilizing social resources to invest in tourism development in general and tourism products in particular. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Thanh, Director of the Department of Culture,
Sports and Tourism of Long An province, said that Long An has been gradually shaping and developing tourism products based on exploiting its strengths in tourism resources, developing a system of competitive tourism products, limiting duplication with localities in the Mekong Delta region, and meeting the diverse needs of the market. Currently, the province is building and focusing on developing groups of distinctive, highly competitive tourism products, including: typical ecotourism in the Dong Thap Muoi region; weekend tourism, tourism visiting historical and cultural relics - revolutionary history, rural tourism, tourism products supplementing transit tourism, tourism during the flood season, research tourism, etc. Supporting tourism products include the socialization of investment in services, goods, and souvenirs for tourists at historical and cultural sites. In addition, localities within the province have developed specific tourism programs based on local strengths, transforming local specialties and OCOP (One Commune One Product) products into tourism products to maximize the advantages of on-site export for Long An's agricultural products. In the future, to effectively exploit potential and develop tourism, and gradually professionalize tourism activities, the province will continue to invest in developing a system of tourism products associated with brand building, promotion, and human resource training to meet development requirements. At the same time, the province will also strengthen linkages in tourism product development, expanding cooperation with localities nationwide, and with provinces in the Mekong Delta region in developing tourism in the Greater Mekong Subregion with Ho Chi Minh City and localities in the Southern Key Economic Region. In addition, the province is also stepping up its promotional and marketing efforts to introduce its potential and strengths, and attract investment for the development of local tourism.
