Long An is a province in the Mekong Delta and the Southern Key Economic Zone, connecting the Eastern and Western regions of the South; at the same time, it acts as a gateway connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the provinces of the Mekong Delta. It has a 132.97 km long border with Svay Rieng and Prey Veng provinces (Kingdom of Cambodia); has Binh Hiep international border gate (Kien Tuong town), My Quy Tay national border gate (Duc Hue district), 03 secondary border gates (Hung Dien A, Long Khot in Vinh Hung district; Tan Hung in Tan Hung district) and 07 openings. As a land rich in historical and cultural traditions, Long An province has a diverse and rich cultural life with 112 historical and cultural relics (21 national relics and 91 provincial relics); 02 national treasures; 05 national intangible cultural heritages; over 200 festivals of different scales and characteristics; 10 traditional art forms, 18 traditional professions.
Long An has a fairly favorable tourism infrastructure system, especially a well-developed road and waterway transport system. Along with the road transport system, Long An has the Dong and Tay Vam Co rivers, which are strengths in exploiting waterway tourism; has Binh Hiep International Border Gate, Bourbon Port, Long An International Seaport and is only 45km from Tan Son Nhat Airport.
Long An is identified as one of the important eco-tourism destinations of the Southern tourist region with many resources such as the Center for Research, Conservation and Development of Medicinal Herbs in Dong Thap Muoi, Lang Sen Wetland Reserve, Tan Lap Melaleuca Forest, etc. with diverse flora and fauna. These are attractive tourist and research destinations for tourists connecting tourism programs to Dong Thap Muoi during the flood season. In particular, in recent times, the Department of Culture - Sports and Tourism of Long An province has focused on preserving and promoting the value of historical - cultural relics in the province associated with tourism development, proactively building a joint plan with the Department of Education and Training and the Provincial Youth Union to develop and promote this type of tourism.
According to a report from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Long An province, after more than 6 months of implementation, the work of preserving, restoring and promoting the value of historical and cultural relics associated with tourism development has made many improvements. The system of historical and cultural relics in the province has been restored and restored with socialized funding of about more than 100 billion VND; historical and cultural relics have been promoted on the media, included in school education programs... contributing to promoting the introduction of the image of people and tourism potential of Long An.
In early 2024, there were 123 groups with more than 21,000 visitors to the Museum - Library, relics and cultural works directly managed by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, mainly union members, youth, students. In the whole province, there were more than 67,000 students, union members and youth coming to study extracurricular activities, visit and experience historical - cultural relics.
The work of caring for and preserving historical and cultural relics has also seen many improvements. Since the beginning of the year, more than 123,000 students and union members have participated in caring for, preserving, cleaning, maintaining facilities, and planting trees at historical and cultural relics.
The tours combined with visiting historical relics in the province are designed quite richly, in accordance with the criteria of both educating traditions, fostering love for the homeland and country, and combining entertainment activities. Typical examples are: Tours to the source: the Southern Party Committee area, Vam Nhut Tao, Rach Cat Fortress, etc.; tours to visit unique architectural and artistic relics in the South; tours to visit and learn from experience; sports tours, especially golf tours; spiritual and meditation tours, etc.

However, according to the assessment from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Long An province, the number of visitors to historical sites has increased, but the number of tourists from the province to tourist areas and spots is still modest. Along with that are difficulties and problems in transportation, infrastructure, promotion work, etc., making historical tourism not really achieve the desired results.
To implement Resolution No. 51-NQ/TU of the Long An Provincial Party Committee on building and developing Long An culture and people by 2030 and the following years, the Long An Provincial Tourism Department determined to continue coordinating with relevant units to promote the preservation, restoration and promotion of historical and cultural relic values, associated with tourism development in the province, in order to strongly promote the strengths of Long An to domestic and foreign tourists./.
