Malaysian naturalized players are embroiled in scandal. |
According to Nik Erman, FAM’s suspension of former Secretary General Datuk Noor Azman Rahman in October was merely a pretext. FIFA was said to be “shocked and disappointed” with the way FAM handled the case. The suspension appears to be an attempt to demonstrate that FAM acted, but fails to answer the most important question: “Who is responsible?”
In the statements provided to FIFA, many players admitted that they worked with agents. Agents worked with FAM. But FAM could not identify the direct contacts.
The players also asserted that it was FAM that initiated contact with them and their representatives, making the question of the role of the individuals involved even more difficult to explain.
Mr. Nik Erman said that if the case was brought to CAS, FAM would suffer even more damage. FIFA's argument is very clear and the appeal will only make FAM's image worse.
“Legally, there is no reason to appeal. Those who want to pursue it to the end can go to CAS, but in practice, that is not necessary,” he told Astro Arena.
The case involves a group of naturalized players who were found to have violated Article 22 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code on document fraud. Following the ruling, FIFA asked FAM to clarify its internal responsibilities and will continue to closely monitor the federation's handling of the case.
