Genius Olympiad 2023 Controversy: Disciplinary warning for teacher Nguyen Minh Trung

Speaking to a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Departmentof Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that after receiving a report from the principal of Gia Dinh High School, on July 19, the Department of Education and Training sent an official dispatch requesting the school's leaders to handle the incident.

On that basis, on July 24, the principal of Gia Dinh High School issued a disciplinary decision in the form of a warning against teacher Nguyen Minh Trung for 12 months.

The spokesperson of the Department of Education and Training also stated that the department is considering organizing a review of the principal of Gia Dinh High School.

Previously, in mid-July, Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper continuously reported on the controversies from the Genius Olympiad 2023 competition in the US.
Specifically, since July 7, an article has been circulating on social networking sites about a student accusing QU students of Gia Dinh High School (Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) of stealing his exam paper in the above-mentioned contest, and this was done with the intervention of teacher Nguyen Minh Trung.

Meanwhile, QU's parents confirmed that QU took the test. However, Ms. Tran Hong Diep, MC's parent - the person who accused her of "plagiarism" - affirmed that Mr. Trung had cheated during the competition. Specifically, he took MC's test for QU to take. After that, the organizing committee of the Genius Olympiad investigated the incident and determined that there was cheating.

Due to this discovery, the Organizing Committee of the Genius Olympiad 2023 competition has taken the necessary steps to revoke the prize related to the fraudulent submission.

For the teacher in charge, specifically Mr. Nguyen Minh Trung, he will not be able to submit any projects for the upcoming Genius Olympiad 2024 exam.
