"I've called multiple people, and Justin Bieber's side has admitted that in 2022, he's on the brink of 'financial collapse.' And that's why he had to sell the rights to his songs," TMZ executive producer Harvey Levin said in the documentary TMZ Investigates: What Happened to Justin Bieber?, streaming on Hulu.
The film quotes Justin as saying: "I have to sell it now." The singer sold his entire song catalog in December 2022.

Levin speculates that Justin Bieber (whose net worth is estimated at $300 million) is at risk of bankruptcy in part due to financial difficulties arising from debts after he canceled his 2022 Justice Tour .
A TMZ employee also said in the documentary that Bieber (31 years old) spent a huge amount of money on the tour including: 8 buses and 2 million USD to renovate the buses, fly on expensive jets and buy several large mansions.
TMZ executive producer Don Nash claims that if Bieber completes the tour, he will earn $90 million.
Rumors of financial problems have swirled around the pop star for some time. Earlier this month, it was reported that Bieber owed his former manager Scooter Braun millions of dollars, despite splitting from the music mogul nearly two years ago.
According to a six-month independent audit conducted by auditing firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), the singer owes Braun more than $8.8 million.
At the time, a source told Page Six that the debt stemmed from money the mogul loaned Bieber to help him out after his tour cancellation cost him $20 million.

Justin Bieber spends lavishly
Last October, an insider told Page Six that the Peaches singer's spending habits were "out of control."
"Justin spends huge amounts of money every month. At times, he can't even get a credit card. Justin is surrounded by so many people who don't care about his interests," the source confirmed.
Similar comments were echoed earlier in May 2025 when some of the Grammy winner's friends expressed concerns about his continued spending spree, despite the financial difficulties he was said to be facing.
"Justin flew all his friends on a private jet to his birthday party, posted it on Instagram. He spent a lot of money even though he didn't work for a very long time," a source exclusively told Page Six .
In addition to financial difficulties, many people also speculated about the singer's mental health after he was repeatedly discovered using drugs and having erratic behavior.
In April 2025, several sources close to Justin Bieber told the Hollywood Reporter that they feared he would "collapse" because he "wasn't living up to his purpose."
