Developing renewable energy

Developing renewable energy is not only an inevitable trend, but also a strategic area for Ca Mau to break through and become a green energy center for the region and the whole country. Linking renewable energy development with the electricity export strategy will contribute to diversifying revenue sources, protecting the environment, promoting a circular economy, and deeper international integration.

During the period 2021-2025, Ca Mau province planned and implemented investments in 1,618 MW of renewable energy, with 16 wind power plants already in operation, totaling 870 MW; along with more than 2,800 rooftop solar power systems, totaling 295 MWp, making Ca Mau one of the provinces with the highest total renewable energy capacity in the Mekong Delta region.

To help Ca Mau become a green energy hub for the region and the country, Mr. Nguyen Chi Thien, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, said that, in the short term, the department will advise on adjusting the provincial planning, including updating and adjusting highly feasible energy infrastructure development plans. At the same time, it will propose to the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Industry and Trade to adjust the Power Development Plan VIII, especially adjusting the project to expand the Ca Mau 1 and 2 Thermal Power Plants into an officially planned project.

In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has established working groups to support and promptly address difficulties and obstacles for investors implementing projects, ensuring that an additional 3,200 MW of LNG power, 2,309 MW of wind power, 100 MW of concentrated solar power , and 117 MW of rooftop solar power will be operational by 2030.

Developing renewable energy is not only an inevitable trend but also a strategic opportunity for Ca Mau to break through and become a green energy hub for the whole country and the region.

"In the medium and long term, the province will attract investment in new energy projects from renewable energy sources to keep pace with the energy transition roadmap; build infrastructure to ensure sufficient capacity for storing and exporting new energy, aiming to form a specialized renewable energy industrial park. Develop logistics and energy infrastructure associated with Hon Khoai port, attract investment in the semiconductor chip sector and data centers to create a synchronized value chain from energy production - storage - export," Mr. Nguyen Chi Thien added.
