MAG and 4 US Government-funded projects in Quang Tri resume operations

The leaders of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Quang Tri province confirmed that they have just received a document from MAG Vietnam announcing the continuation of the project "Community liaison and mine and explosive clearance in Quang Tri province, phase VII (2021-2025)" (MAG Quang Tri project).

Accordingly, with the announcement of the lifting of the US President's executive order suspending US-funded foreign aid programs, MAG has received approval from the US State Department for its proposal to extend funding for the MAG project in Quang Tri until April 30, 2025.

Specifically, the MAG Quang Tri project will restart on April 2, 2025, implementing refresher training activities to ensure safety and compliance with operational standards before officially implementing field activities. In addition, MAG Vietnam has submitted a contract proposal for the next phase starting from May 1, 2025 as requested by the sponsor.

Thus, up to now, 5 projects in Quang Tri funded by the US Government have been allowed to resume operations after the suspension order.

Projects allowed to resume operations include: "Environmental Restoration and War Consequences Overcoming (RENEW)" project funded through Norwegian People's Aid (NPA/Norway), with a total aid budget of more than 9.7 million USD. "Detecting and handling bombs, mines and explosives to reduce hazards and support the socio-economic development plan of Quang Tri province for the period 2021-2025" funded through PeaceTrees VietNam (PTVN/USA), with a total aid budget of more than 14.5 million USD.

The project “Capacity Development for the Quang Tri Province Mine Action Center (QTMAC) for the period 2022-2025” with a total budget of 1.4 million USD is funded through the NPA/Norway organization. The non-refundable ODA project “Support to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities in provinces heavily sprayed with Agent Orange” (referred to as the Integration project) for the period 2021-2026 is funded by USAID; the project is implemented in 8 provinces heavily sprayed with Agent Orange, including Quang Tri province; the total funding budget for Quang Tri province is more than 5.6 million USD.

The project "Community liaison and mine and explosive clearance in Quang Tri province, phase VII (2021-2025)" is sponsored by Mines Advisory Group (MAG/UK).
