1. A year and a half has passed, but Mr. Huynh Hong Sang - a teacher at Can Giuoc Town Primary School (Can Giuoc District, Long An Province), is still filled with happiness since the day he was awarded the Community Shelter . For him, the new house is a dream come true, not only a place to return to but also the beginning of better things in life.
Originally from Ninh Thuan province, after graduating from high school, Mr. Sang went to Ho Chi Minh City to study at university and work. In 2019, fate brought him to Long An to live and start a career when he met his current wife, a preschool teacher. In the first years of returning to his wife's hometown to start a career, in addition to taking care of their small family, the couple also took care of his wife's elderly grandmother and a sister-in-law who was still in school. Both were teachers, but their salaries were so low that they did not dare to think about rebuilding the severely degraded house.
Presenting the Trade Union Shelter to Mr. Huynh Hong Sang (Can Giuoc Town Primary School, Can Giuoc District)
After his grandmother passed away, his family continued to adopt a cousin born in 2016, an orphan whose mother had a stroke. Many people "gave in": "It's so difficult, why are you still adopting another one?" But for Sang and his wife, it was blood and flesh, a duty that could not be ignored. Sang recalled: "Back then, the house floor was low, every time it rained or the tide was high, water flooded in. Once, a tree on the roof fell on my cousin's head when he was only 5 years old. Luckily my wife and I came back in time, otherwise I don't know what would have happened."
In 2023, the Can Giuoc Town Primary School's Union selected and prepared a proposal for Mr. Sang to receive support to build the Union Shelter. After 3 months, the application was approved. When he heard the news, he was extremely moved and immediately called his wife to tell her the news.
The house was built in Quarter 3, Nguyen An Ninh Street, Can Giuoc Town, with an area of 29 square meters . The total construction cost was more than 80.5 million VND, of which the Golden Heart Charity Fund in Long An supported 50 million VND, the rest was contributed by relatives.
“People say that only when you have a stable home can you have a successful career. Before I had a new house, every time I went to teach and it rained or was windy, I was very worried about the house and the children at home. Now I feel secure. The house is solid, no longer worried about it collapsing or leaking. Thank you to the Trade Union organization and all the kind-hearted people who helped my family have a stable home like today. I will try my best to contribute to theeducation of the province,” said Mr. Sang.
Vice President in charge of the Can Giuoc District Labor Federation - Ta Thi Quynh Trang said: “The District Labor Federation is preparing documents to propose to donate 2 more Union Shelters. Union Shelters are not simply support for building or repairing a house, but also the sharing and affection of the Union organization for union members and workers in difficult circumstances. Each shelter given is a belief that is nurtured, a dream of settling down becomes a reality, helping workers feel secure in their work, overcome adversity and rise up in life”.
2. No longer sad about the past, now Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thao (Long My hamlet, My Le commune, Can Duoc district) is enjoying happiness in her new house and is full of hope for the future.
Marrying a husband far away from home, the joy did not last long before the marriage broke down, she took her child and returned to her parents alone. Back home, she worked at the People's Committee of Long Huu Tay commune. Her parents gave her land to build a house, she saved a lot but still could not build it. Despite the difficulties, she encouraged herself to try to improve. At the office, she completed the assigned tasks well, was friendly and gentle with the people and colleagues. Knowing her situation, the Long Huu Tay commune grassroots union proposed to build a union shelter. "When I received the news, I was very happy, if it were not for the union, it would have taken me a long time to build a house" - Ms. Thao said.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thao (Long My hamlet, My Le commune, Can Duoc district) and her daughter are happy in the Trade Union Shelter.
The house was solidly built, with an area of 84m2 , costing 100 million VND. Of which, the Golden Heart Charity Fund in Long An supported 50 million VND, the rest was contributed by family and relatives.
Having a place to shelter from the sun and rain made her feel more secure. Near the Long Huu Tay Commune People's Committee headquarters, there was a car wash shop, the owner's name was Tai. He had also had a broken marriage. Seeing that both of them had feelings for each other but were still hesitant, their colleagues "go with the flow", they became a couple, and together they built their happiness.
During the day, they work in Long Huu Tay commune; in the evening, the whole family gathers in the Community Shelter. With someone accompanying, sharing, and comforting them, her spirit gets better and better. Every day, they work hard and save money to complete the house. She borrows more from the CEP Microfinance Organization and the District Social Policy Bank Transaction Office to pave the floor and tile the inside. Now the house is more spacious, and the debt she borrowed is almost paid off. She and her husband also bought a washing machine, refrigerator, etc. to make life more comfortable. What makes her happiest is that Mr. Tai is very responsible, loves her, loves the children, and is filial to both parents.
Ms. Thao shared: “Since having this house, my life has been better. This is a great motivation for me and my family to continue trying. Besides housing support, the agency's union also takes good care of the material and spiritual life of union members. Many good models and creative ways have been implemented to help us feel more secure in our work.”
Looking at her daughter happily playing in the new house, Ms. Thao could not hide her joy. Now, she is no longer alone when her daughter is sick because she has her husband to share and be close to her. The CD shelter is as meaningful as its name. It is truly a place of happiness and hope for the future./.
