The Provincial People's Committee requested localities, agencies and units to develop plans to implement contents and activities in response to World Environment Day (June 5) and the Action Month for the Environment in 2025, ensuring practicality, effectiveness and suitability to the practical conditions of each locality and unit.
The implementation contents include: Comprehensively innovating the propaganda and dissemination of policies and laws on environmental protection; perfecting policies, promoting production and recycling of waste in an environmentally friendly manner; organizing a peak month of action for the environment in 2025 associated with the national campaign "Join hands to reduce plastic waste - Spreading a green lifestyle".
The focus is on organizing launching ceremonies, rallies and community forums/youth forums on environmental protection, integrating exhibitions of recycled products, circular economic models, green technology solutions; organizing policy dialogues between people - businesses - management agencies on solutions to reduce plastic pollution.
Launch a campaign to simultaneously clean up the environment, collect and classify plastic waste at source in urban areas, rural areas, residential areas, schools, offices, rivers and lakes. Launch community models to collect - recycle - reuse disposable plastic, linked to retail systems, tourism , schools, offices and localities; select typical models to summarize - commend - replicate.
Deploy visual communication activities, simultaneously hang billboards, banners, posters on main roads, public places, agencies, schools, shopping centers, residential areas,... with messages responding to World Environment Day 2025.
World Environment Day 05/06/2025 was launched by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) with the theme "Combating plastic pollution", calling on the global community to take drastic action to address plastic waste - one of the most urgent environmental challenges today.
This is the second time in 3 years (2023-2025) that the theme "Combating Plastic Pollution" has been chosen, clearly demonstrating the global priority in controlling plastic pollution; at the same time, reaffirming the commitment to using resources efficiently, protecting biodiversity, enhancing adaptability, promoting innovation and strengthening regional - global cooperation, towards a circular economy and sustainable development.
According to a UNEP report, the world produces about 430 million tons of plastic each year, of which more than two-thirds are single-use products that quickly become waste, polluting the ocean; seriously affecting the ecosystem and human health.
In Vietnam, it is estimated that about 1.8 million tons of plastic waste is generated each year, but only about 27% is recycled, the rest is mostly buried or burned, causing waste of resources and posing many potential environmental risks.
The peak month of environmental action in 2025 will be implemented from the end of May to the end of June 2025, focusing on the national campaign "Join hands to reduce plastic waste - Spread green lifestyle", aiming to mobilize the whole society to participate in practical, diverse and widespread activities.
Accordingly, the province maintains propaganda work on preventing and combating plastic pollution, minimizing and reusing plastic waste, limiting the use of disposable plastic products and hard-to-decompose nylon bags. Diversify propaganda tools and methods; apply technology platforms and social networks to communicate the theme "Fighting plastic pollution" to create spread and response from all classes of people.
The overarching goal is to “Raise awareness - Change behavior - Promote action” towards a green lifestyle, sustainable consumption, contributing to controlling plastic pollution, protecting the environment, implementing climate commitments and sustainable development goals./.
