The surface of the Dong Nai River, passing Ben Soi Bridge, is empty, without water hyacinth.
On December 1, Tay Ninh Department of Construction organized a team to inspect and conduct the final acceptance of water hyacinth treatment work on the Vam Co Dong River, canals and ditches in the old Tay Ninh province.
The delegation included representatives from the Inland Waterways Port Authority (Department of Construction), the Irrigation Sub-Department (Department of Agriculture and Environment), and AgriS Agricultural Development Joint Stock Company (the winning bidder for water hyacinth treatment).
Through field surveys at many sections of the Vam Co Dong River, from Phuoc Vinh Commune to An Phuoc Bridge (Phuoc Chi Commune, Tay Ninh Province), the amount of water hyacinth recorded is quite small, mainly floating along both banks or stuck at places where people set up traps. The river surface is clear, creating favorable conditions for ships and boats to circulate.
Many water hyacinths get caught in the fish traps of people living along the river.
According to the Department of Construction, at the end of 2022, the Department of Transport (now merged into the Department of Construction and is the standing agency of the Steering Committee for Water Hyacinth Treatment) signed Contract No. 141/HD-XLLB, dated November 30, 2022 with Thanh Thanh Cong Agricultural Development Joint Stock Company (now AgriS) on water hyacinth treatment on the Vam Co Dong River and canals in the province. The contract implementation period is 36 months, starting from December 1, 2022.
After 3 years of implementation, the amount of water hyacinth on the Vam Co Dong River has decreased year by year, but still appears densely at certain times and in certain areas. The contract has now ended. To ensure smooth waterway traffic for people and vehicles, the Department of Construction is advising the Provincial People's Committee to develop a bidding plan to select a new unit to continue to carry out the work of collecting and treating water hyacinth on the entire Vam Co Dong River and the system of canals and ditches in the province.
