Malaysia expects Vietnamese tourists

As the second largest tourist market of Vietnam in Southeast Asia, Malaysia wants to bring Vietnamese tourists many opportunities to experience and explore this country.

Aiming to attract 489,000 Vietnamese tourists in 2025, the Malaysian Government and the Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board have carried out many activities to promote and stimulate tourism in Vietnam.

As of March 2025, there will be 167 direct flights per week between Vietnam and Malaysia, connecting tourism activities between the two countries.

Strengthening tourism cooperation

On April 14, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung had a working session with Malaysian Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato' Sri Tiong King Sing.

Regarding cooperation in the tourism sector, Minister Nguyen Van Hung said there are many direct flights connecting the two countries.

Malaysia is currently the second largest tourist market of Vietnam in Southeast Asia and the seventh in the world. The number of Malaysian tourists to Vietnam is also growing steadily.

Affirming that tourism is a key industry in Malaysia's economic development, Minister Dato' Sri Tiong King Sing expressed his desire to coordinate and promote tourism development between the two countries.

Both sides support plans to open more routes and increase flights between the two countries, especially night flights.

Encourage and support tourism businesses on both sides to develop more tours and routes, increasing the attraction of two-way tourists.

Regarding Muslim tourism, Vietnam asked Malaysia to share experiences and support Vietnam in building the Vietnamese Halal industry.

Encourage investment in production and supply chains of Halal products in Vietnam to better serve Malaysian Muslim tourists.

Many undiscovered destinations

Before the working session on April 14, Mr. Dato' Sri Tiong King Sing personally attended the International Tourism Fair - VITM Hanoi 2025 and worked with Vietnamese travel and aviation businesses.

Ms. Nguyen Nguyet Van Khanh - Marketing Director of Vietravel Tourism Company - commented that Malaysia is a familiar market but still has a lot of potential.

Malaysia always retains its attraction to Vietnamese tourists because of its diversity in culture - cuisine - nature.

"The Malaysian market still has a lot of potential for development, especially in the following trends: family travel, travel combined with shopping; budget tours for young people or specialized tours such as sports, cuisine, and festivals," Ms. Van Khanh shared.

At the working session with BestPrice Travel Company, the Malaysian Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture expressed his desire to promote two-way cooperation with Vietnamese travel agencies.

At the same time, discuss the contents of the plan to promote joint promotion and increase the number of two-way tourists.

Malaysia is ready to cooperate and support businesses, KOLs, and the press to have materials to write articles and promote destinations in Malaysia that Vietnamese tourists rarely know about.

Commenting on this market, Mr. Bui Thanh Tu, marketing director of BestPrice Travel Company, said that Malaysia has many advantages to attract Vietnamese tourists such as close geographical distance, many cheap flights, flexible visa policies, and affordable travel costs.

Mr. Tu proposed solutions to increase two-way traffic in the coming time such as: organizing thematic fairs, experiential events, and promoting through digital platforms.

In particular, spreading the image of Malaysia tourism through KOLs/KOCs targeting young customers.
