Farewell to comrade Tran Duc Luong - Exemplary leader, devoted his whole life to the country and the people!

Comrade Tran Duc Luong, former: Politburo member, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council, born on May 5, 1937; hometown in Pho Khanh commune, Duc Pho district (now Duc Pho town), Quang Ngai province; permanent residence at 298, Van Phuc street, Lieu Giai ward, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi city.

He was regrouped in the North in February 1955; joined the Communist Party of Vietnam on December 19, 1959. He was a member of the Party Central Committee of the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th terms; a member of the Politburo of the 8th and 9th terms; a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the 8th term; Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers from February 1987 to September 1992; Deputy Prime Minister from October 1992 to August 1997; President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council of the 10th and 11th terms; a National Assembly delegate of the 7th, 8th, 10th, and 11th terms.

During more than 50 years of revolutionary activities, comrade Tran Duc Luong made many great contributions to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. He was awarded the Gold Star Order, the 65-year Party membership badge and many other noble orders, medals, awards and titles by the Party and the State.

As one of the key leaders of the Party and State, Comrade Tran Duc Luong always upheld the spirit of responsibility, sense of organization, set an example and maintained the solidarity and unity of the Party, loved his comrades and compatriots. He was always truly open-minded, modest in learning, respectfully listened to and accepted contributions; always put the interests of the Party and the nation above all; was loved by his comrades and compatriots, and respected by international friends.

For the people of the Vietnamese countryside, President Tran Duc Luong is one of the leaders who has devoted himself to reviving the country and homeland; always concerned with the people, close to the people, understanding the people, for the people, closely following the development of agriculture, rural areas, farmers, together looking towards a better future for the homeland and country.

Many cadres who had the honor of accompanying and serving him for many years still remember clearly the simple and friendly image of President Tran Duc Luong on each working trip to the countryside and mountainous areas. He not only cared about infrastructure, electricity, roads, schools, and stations, but also directly listened to the people's thoughts, discussed with cadres and party members about ways to change crop structure, increase the value of agricultural products, eliminate hunger and reduce poverty; contributing to creating many models of sustainable socio-economic development.

Throughout his life and revolutionary career, the moral example, wisdom and dedication of former President Tran Duc Luong will always live in the hearts of every cadre, party member, comrade and compatriot. More than ever, the responsibility of today's generation is to continue the glorious career, follow the path that comrade and previous generations of leaders have worked hard to build, bring the country forward strongly, worthy of the people's trust.

Farewell, comrade! The entire Party, the entire army, and the entire people are determined to unite as one, strive to steadfastly follow the glorious revolutionary path that the Party, beloved Uncle Ho, and our people have chosen, comprehensively and synchronously promote the renovation process, build a Vietnam with “rich people, strong country, democracy, equality, and civilization”; confidently enter a new era - an era of striving for development, wealth, and prosperity of the nation.

Every decision today requires the blending of collective intelligence with the desire for innovation, maintaining the trust and expectations of the people, something that former President Tran Duc Luong had been concerned about all his life. The entire Party, the entire army and the entire people vow to strive to excellently fulfill the set goals and tasks, prepare and organize well the Party Congresses at all levels, towards the 14th National Party Congress.

The passing of former President Tran Duc Luong is a great loss to our Party, State, people and family. In this moment of grief and emotion, we respectfully send to the family of comrade Tran Duc Luong our deepest condolences for the irreparable pain and loss.

To express condolences and commemorate comrade Tran Duc Luong, the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front decided to hold a State Funeral for him.

The entire Party, the entire army, and the entire people respectfully bow their heads in farewell and remember the great contributions of comrade Tran Duc Luong to the country and the people!
