OLED gaming displays will get brighter and brighter
The new standard requires OLED displays to achieve a peak brightness of at least 1,000 nits across 2% of the screen, and 500 nits across the entire screen, both in short bursts and in prolonged intensity testing. This is a significant step up from the current DisplayHDR True Black 400 standard, which only requires around 250 nits across the entire screen.
Higher brightness will significantly improve the HDR experience, especially in games and movies with lots of bright scenes. Colors will be more vibrant, details will be clearer, and the overall image will be more vivid.
The first OLED gaming monitors to receive DisplayHDR True Black 1,000 certification are expected to be unveiled at CES 2025. LG has confirmed that its UltraGear OLED 27GX790A is the first monitor to receive the certification.
In addition to DisplayHDR True Black 1,000, VESA also announced the ClearMR 21000 standard, which evaluates the motion clarity of a display. The LG UltraGear OLED 27GX790A is also the first monitor to achieve this certification.
With these new standards, VESA is driving the development of OLED displays, providing users with a superior visual experience like never before.
