One day in May, the weather was uncomfortably hot. But in the large yard of Huong Hiep Commune Health Station, from early morning, hundreds of people were waiting to be examined, given free medicine and received gifts. This is a meaningful activity in a series of peak activities of Humanitarian Month 2025 organized in Quang Tri, undertaken by a team of doctors and nurses from Military Hospital 268, Logistics - Technical Department, Military Region 4.

Here, local people were given 750 gifts and 750 free medical examinations and medicines. Despite the large number of people and hot weather, the military doctors and nurses were still patient, always smiling happily and enthusiastically examining and providing health consultations to the people.

The medical examination space is arranged into many separate areas such as: reception, health consultation, blood pressure measurement, X-ray, medicine dispensing point... quite interconnected so everything goes smoothly and orderly.

Mr. Ho Van Huong (62 years old) in Phu An village, Huong Hiep commune, shared: "The family is poor so my father cannot afford to go for a health check-up.

So today, the military doctors enthusiastically examined him, gave him health advice, gave him instructions on how to prevent some common diseases, and gave him many preventive medicines and supplements. What made me even happier was that the doctor said that my health was still good and that I could still work to take care of my family.

Deputy Director of Military Hospital 268, Lieutenant Colonel Bui Manh Ha said: “Medical examination and treatment, and humanitarian medicine provision are regular programs of the hospital. Every year, the unit organizes a delegation of cadres, doctors and nurses to carry out health examination programs, provide free medicine and give gifts to people, especially ethnic minorities in disadvantaged areas, who live far away and do not have the conditions to go to medical centers for medical examination and treatment.

Through this cooperation program, we hope to contribute to primary health care for our compatriots, while at the same time building an increasingly close and strong military-civilian solidarity."

About 8 km from the center of Huong Hiep commune, on a steep mountain pass, in Gia Gia village, the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a boarding kitchen for a kindergarten and a Red Cross House for poor households took place simultaneously. From early morning, Mrs. Ho Thi Duân (65 years old) was busy preparing tea, bananas, and jackfruit picked from the garden to treat the delegates attending the groundbreaking ceremony for her house. Mrs. Duân has a particularly difficult situation, is often sick, and has had to live in a makeshift house for many years.

“I live alone, my house has been dilapidated and leaky for a long time but I have not had the means to repair it. Thanks to the support of 70 million VND, the attention of the local government and the help of the neighbors, I have been able to build a new house. My dream of having a solid roof for so long is about to come true, I am very happy,” Ms. Duẫn said emotionally. During the same period, 2 other households with especially difficult housing circumstances in Ta Long commune, Dakrong district, were also given 60 million VND each by the program to build houses.

In remote, mountainous areas with many difficulties such as Huong Hiep commune, going to school for children is not only a journey to find knowledge, but also an effort to overcome many obstacles in living conditions, travel and daily activities. Therefore, a semi-boarding kitchen is not simply a construction project but also a meaningful investment in the future of children, contributing to improving learning conditions, nutritional care and improving the qualityof education .

Stemming from that humanitarian meaning, within the framework of the Humanitarian Month 2025, the Vietnam Red Cross Society in coordination with the Quang Tri Provincial Red Cross Society organized the groundbreaking ceremony for the semi-boarding kitchen project at Gia Gia School - Huong Hiep Kindergarten with a total value of 300 million VND. Gia Gia School has more than 100 preschool children, mainly ethnic minority children. This school currently has many shortages, especially in terms of conditions for boarding students.

Building a spacious, clean, hygienic and nutritionally qualified kitchen will create conditions for the school to organize well the feeding and care of students. From there, parents can work with peace of mind and students will also be motivated to go to school regularly and study better.

Principal of Huong Hiep Kindergarten, teacher Nguyen Thi Thanh Van happily said: “Giving a kitchen to a poor school like Gia Gia is very meaningful, valuable and makes us very happy. The kitchen will help the children have nutritious meals, contributing to ensuring food safety in the school”.

Chairwoman of the Provincial Red Cross Society Mai Thi Kim Nhung said that the works and tasks in the series of peak activities of the Humanitarian Month 2025 deployed in Quang Tri province in general and Huong Hiep commune in particular are practical and meaningful actions to spread love, the spirit of sharing and community responsibility to care for people in difficult and disadvantaged circumstances in society. “This year's Humanitarian Month is organized in conjunction with the commemoration of major holidays of the country and the Society.

The Quang Tri Provincial Red Cross Society continues to promote its core role in humanitarian activities, being a trusted address for kind-hearted people to send their trust, share and contribute to humanitarian activities," Ms. Nhung shared.
