86-year-old martyr's mother has been Party Cell Secretary for 33 consecutive years

When mentioning her name, most of the cadres and people in the ward have good words. That is Mrs. Nguyen Kim Mai, mother of a martyr, 33 consecutive years as Secretary of the Party Cell of Residential Area 5B, Thanh Luong Ward, Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi City.

I asked her: What made you complete your mission so well? The 86-year-old woman, 60 years in the Party, did not go straight to the point, her eyes looked far away and said: “I can never forget, on August 24, 1978, my son To Duc Nghia joined the army and went to Cambodia. Saying goodbye under the guava tree in front of the house, Nghia happily said: “Don’t worry, Mom, I’m going, I’ll come back.” And then, her eyes filled with tears. “From January 6, 1979, my son will forever remain on the battlefield!”

To overcome the pain of losing her child, she threw herself tirelessly into social and family work. In 1990, she retired and was continuously elected as Party Cell Secretary. With the thought that the Party had assigned her an important responsibility, she had to strive to complete the task. The Party Cell led a residential area with 145 households, with over 1,000 people, and was the poorest area of ​​the ward, which was very complicated at first.

How to make the Party cell and residential area more and more stable and progressive? She thinks, nothing is more effective than relying on the people. Uncle Ho said: "It is ten times easier without the people, but it is also difficult. It is a hundred times harder to do it with the people." First of all, we must propagate and mobilize the people to study and follow the moral example of Ho Chi Minh . Because Uncle Ho is a man of "great wisdom, great courage, great righteousness, great humanity". When talking about Uncle Ho, everyone respects and admires him.

Implementing the Politburo 's Directive on organizing the campaign "Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle" and implementing the plan of the Ward Party Committee, in 2007, she proposed and received the approval of the Party Cell, inviting three times the superior propaganda officers to talk about Ho Chi Minh's ideology and moral example to the cadres, party members and people in the residential area. The Party Cell sent documents and instructions to the organizations and residential groups to exchange and discuss Uncle Ho's ideology and example.

With the help of the Ward Party Committee, she and the Party Cell organized the preliminary round of the contest “Telling stories about the moral example of Ho Chi Minh” in the residential area. The preliminary round had 5 contestants representing different classes of people participating. Notably, in the contest, there were 3 contestants from a Catholic family, mother Nguyen Bich Phuong, 2 daughters Nguyen Ngoc Bich and Nguyen Thanh Thuy. All 3 contestants were selected to participate in the ward-wide final round and all 3 won high prizes.

Next, she proposed to the Party Cell that it is necessary to promote the people's mastery so that everything can be done. Since 1994, the Party Cell has had a policy of sending the list of Party members in the Party Cell to the organizations and residential groups every year, so that people can give their opinions on Party members' political qualities, ethics and lifestyle. Then, gather through the Party Cell to commend good people and good deeds and remind Party members of their shortcomings and shortcomings that people have given their opinions on. The minutes of the Party Cell's meetings on this matter are made public to the people. The Party Cell then proceeds to have people recommend Party Committee personnel to the Party Cell. Every time, nearly 100% of the people recommended by the people match the opinions of the Party Cell. Thanks to that, people have absolute trust in the Party's leadership.

She discussed with the Party Cell that all measures must be focused on continuously improving the material and spiritual life of the people, only then will the people be able to exercise their right to mastery. The residential area of ​​5B is located under the 3 dykes of Nguyen Khoi, Tran Khat Chan, and Lang Yen Street, so when it rains, it causes flooding. Since 1994, the Party Cell has mobilized the people to dredge the sewers every 3 years, each time dredging from 700 to 830m of sewers, fundamentally solving the problem of flooding.

She and the Party Cell considered the proposal to the ward to repair dilapidated houses for poor families; introduce jobs for young people, including 3 families with drug addicts who have returned from rehab and have stable jobs. 100% of meritorious people and policy families are annually sent to recuperate and take vacations. On holidays and Tet, the Party Cell and organizations visit and give gifts. In 2011, the Party Cell proposed a special resolution on holding a memorial service for 35 martyrs in the residential area. For 3 consecutive years, the motto of mobilizing people to support, not charging fees from martyrs' families.

At first, the residential area did not have a cultural house for activities and meetings. With the family's consent, all activities of the residential area were held at her house. She voluntarily supported all costs for drinking water, electricity and fans, even though the residential area proposed to compensate for the costs.

For more than a third of a century, although she participated in many other jobs such as Party Committee member; Permanent Vice Chairman of the Ward People's Council; Deputy Head of the Ward Mass Mobilization Committee. Despite her busy work, she still took time to read books and newspapers about Uncle Ho. Therefore, she remembered many of Uncle Ho's valuable articles and words, to use as a guide for all her actions.

As the proverb says: "A woman with merit will not be betrayed by her husband", for 33 consecutive years as Party Cell Secretary, she, together with the Party Cell, mass organizations and all the people in the residential area, have brought invaluable rewards. For 33 consecutive years, the Party Cell has achieved the title of "Exemplary Clean and Strong Party Cell" at the ward level. At the district level, for 5 consecutive years, it has achieved the title of "Exemplary Clean and Strong Party Cell"; recognized for its achievements in "Outstanding Party Cell leadership during the period of Party renovation and rectification" and for its leadership achievements in "Following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style" and commended by the Hai Ba Trung District Party Committee. 100% of mass organizations have achieved the titles of "Advanced" and "Excellent"; the residential area has achieved the title of "Cultural Residential Area"; the residential group has achieved the title of "Cultural Residential Group" and has been recognized and commended by the ward and district.

As for her, for 33 consecutive years she has achieved the title of "Qualified Party member, excellently completing tasks"; 3 times received a Certificate of Merit from the Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee for her achievements in "Repaying gratitude"; in 2019, she was selected by the city to report on typical national achievements in "Building the base".
