Meta opens paid plans for Facebook and Instagram in Europe

In a press release, Meta said it will offer these paid service plans to comply with regulations such as the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Digital Markets Law, according to Neowin.

Users in those regions can sign up for $10 a month on the web or $14 a month on the Facebook or Instagram apps on iOS and Android devices. The plans will apply to all linked Facebook and Instagram accounts. On March 1, 2024, all linked user accounts will cost $6.40 a month on the web and $8.50 a month on iOS and Android.

The higher per-account fees on mobile devices compared to the website are due to Meta having to pay commissions to Apple and Google's app stores.

If users do not want to pay, they can still use the service with personalized ads.

The paid plans are available to users 18 and older. Meta says it provides teens with a useful and responsible advertising experience. Meta adds that those who stick with the current ad-free options on Facebook and Instagram will continue to have the same experience as before.
