From tonight, the cold air will strengthen, so the North will continue to have dry, sunny weather with low humidity (40%). This weather will continue throughout next week with temperatures in mountainous areas reaching 12 degrees.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the North last week had clear skies, with temperatures below 22 degrees Celsius at night, and temperatures below 19 degrees in mountainous areas. Some places like Sa Pa (Lao Cai) were 12 degrees, Dong Van ( Ha Giang ) was nearly 13 degrees, and Sin Ho (Lai Chau) was nearly 14 degrees. The reason is that the North is deep in a cold, dry air mass with divergent winds blowing from the ground to an altitude of 1,500 m.
The Meteorological Agency forecasts that tonight and tomorrow the cold air will strengthen, so next week the North will have clear skies, cold nights, and humidity of 35-41%. Hanoi's temperature for the whole week will be around 24-34 degrees Celsius. High points over 1,500 meters above sea level such as Sa Pa (Lao Cai) will have 21-22 degrees Celsius during the day and 12-15 degrees Celsius at night.
The Central region, under the influence of the cold air strengthening combined with the influence of disturbances in the east wind zone, will have showers and thunderstorms next week, with the rain center in the Central Central region. Common temperature is 29-32 degrees Celsius.
On October 7-8, the area from southern Nghe An to Thua Thien Hue will have 20-40 mm of rain, with some places having over 100 mm. Heavy rains of over 100 mm in 6 hours can cause landslides and flash floods.
Da Nang - Binh Thuan area has rain in the late afternoon, with some areas having heavy rain over 70 mm. Thanh Hoa and the northern part of Nghe An province have rain in some places.
The Southern region and the Central Highlands are affected by the equatorial low pressure trough with an axis of 6-8 degrees north latitude, so next week there will be showers and thunderstorms for many days, concentrated in the evening. During the day, the Southern region will be sunny at 32-34 degrees Celsius, the Central Highlands at 28-31 degrees Celsius.
In early October, weak cold air affecting the North only causes chills at night and in the morning, sunny days and temperatures still above 30 degrees Celsius.
According to Dr. Hoang Phuc Lam - Deputy Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in October, the average temperature across the country is still generally 0.5 - 1 degree Celsius higher than the average of many years.
In November - December, the average temperature is generally at approximately the same level; in particular, the Northern region, North Central - Central Central regions are likely to be about 0.5 degrees Celsius lower than the average of many years in the same period.
“We forecast that cold air is likely to be active in November - December 2024, in which severe cold in the North is likely to appear from the second half of December (equivalent to the average of many years),” said Mr. Lam.
According to the Deputy Director of the Meteorological Agency, cold air will continue to increase in intensity and frequency in January - February 2025, causing widespread severe cold in the northern provinces. It is necessary to be on guard against the possibility of dangerous weather phenomena such as frost, ice, and snow in the mountainous provinces of the Northern region.
Regarding the rainfall trend, according to Mr. Hoang Phuc Lam, the total rainfall from now until the end of the year in the North, Central, Central Highlands and South will generally be higher than the average of many years in the same period.
