Expanding Vietnam-Japan tourism cooperation

NDO - On the morning of May 22, in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong received and worked with Mr. Masafumi Shukuri, President of the Japan Transport and Tourism Research Institute (JTTRI) on the occasion of the working delegation's visit and field survey in Vietnam.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed orientations to enhance cooperation in the fields of tourism , cultural exchange, infrastructure investment and tourism product development between Vietnam and Japan.

Deputy Minister Ho An Phong thanked JTTRI for sharing information related to local tourism development, heritage conservation, and traffic research, while emphasizing the importance of learning from Japan's experience in implementing major projects such as high-speed railways.

Affirming that Vietnam always attaches importance to the traditional friendship with Japan, especially in the fields of culture, sports and tourism, Deputy Minister Ho An Phong said that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is ready to connect localities of the two countries, expand promotional activities, and promote bilateral tourism. Vietnam hopes that Japan will participate more deeply in unique cultural festivals such as the Ban Flower Festival and the Red Flamboyant Flower Festival of Vietnam.

In particular, emphasizing the development potential of the golf tourism sector, the Deputy Minister said that Vietnam has many advantages with attractive natural landscapes and a favorable climate for playing golf all year round, including many international standard golf courses designed by Japan.

On the Japanese side, JTTRI Chairman Masafumi Shukuri said that Japan aims to welcome 2 million tourists from Vietnam by 2030. To realize this goal, Japan wishes to accompany Vietnam in activities to promote the image of the country and Vietnamese people to the Japanese people through tourism promotion programs, cultural exchanges, and organizing seminars and talks.

Appreciating the tourism potential of Vietnam, Mr. Masafumi Shukuri and members of the delegation expressed their impressions of the landscape at Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex and Thung Nham Ecotourism Area ( Ninh Binh ). According to the delegation, ecotourism and nature experiences will especially attract Japanese tourists in the near future. Many Japanese enterprises are interested in investing in high-quality tourism projects in Vietnam.

In fact, the demand for tourist exchange between the two countries is increasing rapidly. In 2024, Vietnam welcomed more than 18 million international visitors, including more than 700,000 Japanese visitors.

On the other hand, more than 600,000 Vietnamese tourists visited Japan. Japan continues to be an attractive choice for Vietnamese tourists because of its unique culture, convenient shopping and rich four-season nature. In addition, the Vietnamese community living and working in Japan is growing, acting as a bridge to promote people-to-people exchanges and mutual understanding between the two countries.

In 2025, Vietnam will continue to carry out many cultural activities in Japan, in addition to its presence at EXPO 2025 Osaka. This will be an important opportunity for Vietnam to promote its national image, tourism potential, and at the same time promote comprehensive cooperation in culture, sports and tourism with Japan.
