AS say Real are considering signing a new midfielder this summer, despite Modric's desire to stay at the Bernabeu. The 39-year-old Croatian has shown his resilience as Real Madrid look to revamp their midfield.

Modric's contract expires at the end of this season. On May 1, Real Madrid signed a short-term contract with the midfielder until July 13, with the aim of allowing him to continue contributing to the club at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Modric’s form has not diminished this season. Statistics show that he was involved in more situations on the pitch than any other player in the match against Mallorca on May 15. If calculated from the beginning of the season, Modric has a passing accuracy rate of up to 91.7%, higher than the 90.8% of the previous season. This shows the stability and efficiency in the Croatian star’s playing style.

"How can we leave Modric out, when he is the best player on the pitch for Real?", commentator Alvaro Benito asked on the Carrusel Deportivo show.

AS believes that letting Modric leave now will cause Real Madrid's midfield to be unbalanced and short of personnel ahead of the new season. Up to now, Real Madrid only has six pure midfielders, half of whom are injured this season.

Eduardo Camavinga has missed 33 games, Dani Ceballos has missed 15, Aurelien Tchouameni has missed five and Jude Bellingham four. Modric is the only player without a fitness problem.

Real are planning to sign three new players, including a centre-back, a left-back and a midfielder. Letting Modric leave and replacing him with another midfielder could cause trouble for Real Madrid.
