On March 31, striker Bui Vi Hao was taken by the doctor of B.Binh Duong Club for an MRI scan in Ho Chi Minh City to determine the extent of the injury he suffered during a training session to prepare for the quarter-finals of the 2024-2025 National Cup.
According to the initial diagnosis from the MRI scan results, Bui Vi Hao was determined to have a torn ligament in his right ankle. Surgery is necessary. With this injury, the striker currently playing for the Vietnam national team and U22 team will need from 6 to 8 months to recover.
This means that Bui Vi Hao will have to sit out the rest of the 2024-2025 season with B.Binh Duong Club. Not only that, he will also not be able to wear the Vietnamese national team jersey to play against Malaysia in the second match of Group F of the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup on June 10.
Even Bui Vi Hao is unlikely to be able to wear the Vietnam U22 team jersey to participate in the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers in September, as well as the 33rd SEA Games at the end of the year.
The latest diagnostic results show that Bui Vi Hao's injury is very serious. Specifically, this 22-year-old striker not only has a torn delta ligament (ankle) but also a fractured fibula.

This injury is even more serious than the broken leg injury that naturalized striker Nguyen Xuan Son suffered at the recent ASEAN Cup 2024.
The surgery will last 2-3 hours.
Doctor Truong Cong Dung - who accompanied the Vietnam U20 team to the 2017 U20 World Cup in Korea - analyzed: "Xuan Son only suffered a fracture of the tibia, which had nothing to do with the joint, nor a torn ligament. Meanwhile, Vi Hao suffered a fracture across the joint, and also a torn delta ligament. Therefore, Vi Hao's injury is much more serious than Xuan Son's."
According to the plan, Bui Vi Hao will undergo surgery at Nam Sai Gon Hospital on April 3. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Truong Cong Dung and is expected to take 2-3 hours to complete.
Doctor Truong Cong Dung said that with this injury, Bui Vi Hao will need an average of 10 months to recover and practice normally.
Thus, Bui Vi Hao no longer has the opportunity to join the U22 Vietnam team to conquer the gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand at the end of the year. This is truly regrettable for him personally as well as for coach Kim Sang Sik.
