Meaningful gifts for the disabled and orphans

- For people with disabilities and orphans, having a wheelchair, a bicycle or a scholarship is a very meaningful gift that makes daily activities easier and reduces the burden of caring for relatives. In recent times, the Provincial Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Orphans has mobilized organizations and individuals inside and outside the province to donate and present meaningful gifts to people with disabilities and orphans in the province.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, President of the Provincial Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Orphans, said: “Currently, there are 32,000 people with disabilities and orphans in the province; most of the disabled are from poor households, near-poor households, and in extremely difficult circumstances and cannot live independently. Only about 25% of the disabled are able to generate income. Therefore, every year, the associations at all levels proactively call on and mobilize organizations, individuals, and philanthropists at home and abroad to organize many campaigns to donate wheelchairs, bicycles, and scholarships to support people with disabilities and orphans. Thereby, demonstrating the community's joint concern to help people with disabilities and orphans reduce difficulties, encouraging their spirit so that they have more will and determination to rise up in life and integrate into the community.”

The Provincial Association for the Support of the Disabled and Orphans presented bicycles to students in Luc Hanh commune (Yen Son).

Recently, the Provincial Association for the Support of the Disabled and Orphans organized a donation of 20 wheelchairs and 20 gifts to people with mobility disabilities; donated 40 bicycles to 40 orphaned, disabled, and disadvantaged students; donated 40 gifts, each consisting of candy, milk, and a 1 million VND cash scholarship to 40 disabled and orphaned people from 3 communes including Luc Hanh, Quy Quan, and Chieu Yen (Yen Son), with a total value of the gifts of over 190 million VND.

Mr. Hoang Van Nghi, village 3, Quy Quan commune (Yen Son) is one of 10 people who received a wheelchair from the Provincial Association for the Support of the Disabled and Orphans. He could not hide his emotions as he shared: “I have been paralyzed since I was a child. My family is near-poor, so buying a wheelchair is impossible. Every day I just sit in one place, my life is boring. Now that I have been given a wheelchair, I am very happy. With a wheelchair, I can be proactive in moving around, have the opportunity to socialize and broaden my knowledge. I am very grateful to the Association and benefactors for their concern and creating material and spiritual conditions for me to overcome difficulties and stabilize my life.”

Through activities to support people with disabilities and orphans, in 2024, the Association donated 230 wheelchairs, 250 bicycles and over 650 gifts, with a total value of more than 1.2 billion VND. In the first 6 months of 2025 alone, the Association mobilized benefactors to donate 60 wheelchairs, 80 bicycles, 150 gifts and scholarships to people with disabilities and orphans in difficult circumstances in Yen Son and Chiem Hoa districts, with a total value of nearly 600 million VND. Although the gifts are not of great value, they have profound humanitarian meaning, demonstrating society's concern for the less fortunate.

Nguyen Hoai Thuong, class 6A, Yen Nguyen Secondary School (Chiem Hoa) said: “Due to difficult family circumstances, I have to walk or hitchhike to school. Recently, I was given a bicycle by the Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Orphans, and I am very happy. I promise to try my best to study well, strictly abide by the Road Traffic Law, and not let down the love of everyone who has cared for and helped me.”

The timely support of the Provincial Association for the Protection of the Disabled and Orphans, along with Party committees, authorities, and philanthropists, has helped disadvantaged people have the opportunity to overcome difficulties, improve their lives, integrate into the community, and gradually rise up to have a better life.
