On December 30, the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the country will become an official partner of the BRICS group of leading emerging economies from January 1, 2025.

The Nation newspaper quoted an announcement from the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs as saying that the partnership is expected to enhance international cooperation and bring opportunities for Thailand and BRICS members, especially in trade, investment and tourism .
The ministry expressed hope that this partnership will promote the relationship between Thailand and BRICS members, as well as Thailand's role in multilateral cooperation.
In addition, Thailand affirmed its readiness to cooperate with BRICS in multilateral cooperation frameworks such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) and the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Economic and Technical Cooperation (BIMSTEC).
According to the announcement, Thailand also expressed its desire to cooperate in participating in a number of meetings to support promoting BRICS cooperation in 2025, when Brazil will chair.
BRICS, founded in 2006, is made up of emerging markets and developing countries with high potential. BRICS currently comprises nine countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Thailand is one of 13 countries named as new partner countries by BRICS on October 24.
