100-year mark and building a development strategy for Vietnamese revolutionary journalism in the new era

The national scientific conference '100 years of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism accompanying the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and nation (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025)' received the attention of many generations of journalists, experts, scientists, leaders, managers as well as those working in the press.

On the afternoon of May 30, in Hanoi, the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission chaired and coordinated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Vietnam Journalists Association , Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Nhan Dan Newspaper, Communist Magazine, Vietnam News Agency, Vietnam Television, National Political Publishing House Truth to organize the National Scientific Conference "100 years of Vietnamese revolutionary press accompanying the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and nation (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025)".

Attending the workshop were leaders of the Party and State; representatives of leaders of departments, ministries, branches and central agencies; leaders of the Vietnam Journalists Association and more than 400 delegates from central and local press agencies.

The workshop aims to affirm the great contributions of the Vietnamese revolutionary press to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation through historical stages; to be a scientific forum for experts, scientists, researchers, generations of journalists, leaders, and press managers to exchange and discuss theoretical and practical issues on the history of formation and development of the Vietnamese revolutionary press; from there, to draw experience, propose directions and solutions for press development to effectively serve the cause of building and defending the Fatherland in the new era.

At the same time, the Workshop is a meaningful and practical activity to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025), contributing to encouraging and motivating the team of journalists to continue to promote the glorious tradition, constantly strive to overcome all difficulties and challenges, maintain political courage, innovate, be creative, proactive, and pioneer on the ideological and cultural front...

The glorious journey of revolutionary journalism

Speaking at the workshop, Politburo member and Standing member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu emphasized that this is an important event, starting the activities to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day.

According to Tran Cam Tu, Standing member of the Secretariat, on June 21, 1925, in Guangzhou, China, President Ho Chi Minh founded Thanh Nien Newspaper - the mouthpiece of the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth Association, the first newspaper of the Vietnamese revolution. This was not only a milestone marking its birth but also the beginning of the glorious journey of the Vietnamese revolutionary press over the past 100 years.

The Standing Secretariat outlined the process of establishment and the role of the Revolutionary Press in contributing to the success of the August 1945 General Uprising, establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam; the role of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press in the resistance war against French colonialism and American imperialism as well as the period of national renewal.

"Over 100 years of construction and development, the Vietnamese revolutionary press has made strong strides in terms of quantity, quality, programs, and publication content, and has initially mastered modern communication technology.

Many press agencies have developed into multimedia press agencies on par with the region and the world. The team of journalists is increasingly strong, politically steadfast, professionally skilled, exemplary in professional ethics and performing well in social responsibilities," Mr. Tran Cam Tu emphasized.

To continue fulfilling their mission, accompanying the nation in the era of development, prosperity, civilization and prosperity, press agencies nationwide need to fully and more deeply grasp the principle: The Party's absolute and comprehensive leadership over press activities to meet the needs of the cause of innovation, construction and development of the country.

In his opening speech at the Workshop, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang - Politburo member, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, affirmed the great contributions of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation; founded by leader Nguyen Ai Quoc - Ho Chi Minh.

The Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council emphasized the need to honor, express gratitude and encourage journalists to continue promoting their glorious tradition, worthy of being pioneers on the ideological, information and cultural front.

On the journey to carry out their noble duty, hundreds of journalists have heroically fallen on fierce battlefields in the cause of fighting for national liberation, national reunification and protection of the fatherland.

During the most difficult years of the war, under the slogan that every journalist is a soldier on the ideological and cultural front, journalists held both pens and guns and devoted themselves to the front lines, becoming a bridge between the battlefield and the rear, between truth and justice.

Continuing that glorious tradition, today the team of journalists continues to affirm their pioneering role in the fight against corruption, waste and negativity. Regardless of danger, many journalists and press agencies have devoted themselves to investigating and persistently pursuing to the end to expose wrongdoings, contributing to cleaning up the apparatus, protecting justice, maintaining discipline, and strengthening the people's trust in the Party and the State.

According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, these are living proofs of the bravery, self-sacrificing responsibility and loyalty to revolutionary ideas of soldiers on the information front in the new era of development.

It can be seen that the presentations at the Conference clearly demonstrated the scientific spirit, seriousness, depth, enthusiasm, responsibility and above all, pride in the great achievements on the glorious 100-year journey of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press.

Many enthusiastic and responsible presentations and opinions proposed scientific and feasible solutions to build and develop Vietnam's revolutionary press in the new era.

At the workshop, Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Dinh Phong - Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, presented the paper "Ho Chi Minh - Great Journalist".

Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Dinh Phong affirmed that, up to now, President Ho Chi Minh's journalism career still retains its value to the nation and the times. President Ho Chi Minh's articles still retain their value, are a beacon of innovation, towards the future, and will last forever with the nation and humanity.

According to him, Ho Chi Minh's press legacy carries the breath of the times, contains new vitality, reflects current events, has high theoretical and practical value, including many articles written about politics, culture, people, ethics, Party building, development aspirations, etc.

With a discussion on the topic "100 years of Revolutionary Journalism - A sharp weapon in the struggle and construction under the leadership of the Party", Prof. Dr. Ta Ngoc Tan - Permanent Vice President of the Central Theoretical Council, affirmed that the birth of Thanh Nien Newspaper on June 21, 1925 was aimed at organizing and uniting the people, building forces to carry out the great revolutionary struggle, liberating the nation, building and developing the country on the socialist path under the leadership of the Communist Party.

"Over the past 100 years, the Vietnamese revolutionary press has been loyal to its original goals and objectives, becoming a sharp weapon, accompanying the nation, from the arduous struggle, sacrifice, overthrowing the domination of French colonialism, driving out powerful invading armies for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland as well as in the cause of building and developing the country, for the happiness of the people, creating very glorious pages of history", emphasized Professor, Dr. Ta Ngoc Tan.

New Journey and Setting

About 100 papers by experts, scientists, researchers, journalists, leaders and managers of journalism sent to and presented at the Workshop focused on exchanging and discussing to deepen the scientific and practical significance of the event of 100 years of Vietnamese Revolutionary Journalism.

This is demonstrated through five main contents such as: Revolutionary press accompanies the nation in the struggle for national independence (1925-1945); Vietnamese revolutionary press accompanies the nation in the resistance war against French colonialism and American imperialism, making important contributions to the victory of the people's national democratic revolution and national reunification; Vietnamese revolutionary press accompanies the nation in building socialism nationwide and in the period of renovation and integration; New context, advantages, difficulties and issues facing Vietnamese revolutionary press; Solutions to build and develop Vietnamese revolutionary press in the new era.

In his closing speech at the workshop, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Nguyen Trong Nghia pointed out that the press is a sharp ideological and cultural tool of the Party, therefore maintaining the Party's leadership is an immutable principle.

Continuing the 100-year tradition, the Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission requested to continue building, consolidating and elevating a future generation of journalists with "sharp pen - pure heart - bright mind", imbued with the spirit of serving the country and the people.

Efforts to improve the quality of training to meet the requirements of the new era, journalists must be good at their profession, have a deep understanding of political theory, understand the realities of social life and be proficient in applying technology; build institutions and policies with orientation and create an environment for the healthy development of journalism; urgently complete the legal corridor, focusing on amending and supplementing the 2016 Press Law and documents guiding its implementation; update and institutionalize the Party's new viewpoints and policies, especially the spirit of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on scientific and technological breakthroughs, innovation and digital transformation.

To improve the efficiency of the press economy, Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia suggested that it is necessary to boldly research and develop new business models suitable for the digital environment. The State needs to create a favorable legal corridor and provide initial support for testing and promoting the press economic model to develop in the right direction.

In addition, it is necessary to promote international cooperation in journalism; increase exchanges with partners on how to organize, manage, and produce press and media content; exchange technology and production techniques; train and foster high-quality human resources; share visions and understanding of international press and media trends, etc.

After the Workshop, the Organizing Committee will distill the delegates' contributions into proposals and recommendations to report to General Secretary To Lam and the Party and State leaders for their opinions on building a strategy for developing revolutionary journalism in the new era.

In order for the revolutionary press to continue to promote its role as a companion to the country in the new era of development, Standing member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat Tran Cam Tu proposed focusing on implementing well a number of key tasks :

Firstly , Party committees, authorities and press agencies need to thoroughly grasp and strictly implement the principle of the Party's comprehensive and absolute leadership over press activities. This is a core, fundamental issue that has been confirmed by practice and is a characteristic of Vietnam's revolutionary press.

Second , the press needs to closely follow reality, fully, deeply and promptly propagate the Party's major policies and the State's laws and policies; honestly reflect the breath of life; accompany the work of reorganizing the political system, renewing the growth model, developing science and technology and international integration. The press needs to actively propagate and prepare well for Party congresses at all levels, towards the 14th National Party Congress.

Third , continue to innovate and organize the press system in a streamlined, modern, and effective direction; improve the quality of content, orientation, combativeness, and persuasiveness in propaganda work; strongly develop new types of journalism, especially on digital platforms and social networks, to maintain the leading role of Revolutionary Journalism in today's diverse media space.

Fourth , pay special attention to the issue of professional ethics; improve the quality of training and foster press cadres with political courage, good professional skills, and pure ethics.

Fifth , promote research, application of scientific and technological achievements, digital transformation in press activities, build professional, effective, internationally integrated press agencies.
