A university uses 17 combinations for admission.

The University of Science (Ho Chi Minh City National University) has just announced its expected enrollment quota and combination for 2025. With 32 majors, the school plans to enroll 4,455 students, an increase of 445 students compared to last year.

Notably, many of the school's training majors consider 10-17 combinations.

According to Ms. Hoang Thanh Tu, Deputy Head of Information and Communication Department, Ho Chi Minh City University of Science, this year's high school graduation exam and admission regulations have many changes, and at the same time, some new subjects have appeared. In order to create conditions for candidates to have more options suitable to their abilities, the school decided to expand the admission combinations for many majors.

“The expansion was carefully considered by the school, based on the characteristics of each training sector. We went through a long discussion process, considering the progress of changes in the examination and admission regulations, as well as the necessary capacity of candidates in each field,” Ms. Tu said, emphasizing that if the combination is limited too little, candidates may have difficulty choosing a major, thereby affecting their psychology and decision to apply for admission.

This year, the University of Science will enroll students using three methods: direct admission and priority admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, Ho Chi Minh City National University, combining international language certificates (IELTS/TOEFL iBT) with high school academic results; admission based on the results of the High School Graduation Exam; admission based on the results of the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City National University Competency Assessment Exam.

Last year, the school's benchmark score based on high school graduation exam scores was 18.5-28.5.

Ministry of Education and Training 'blows the whistle' on universities

On April 9, the Ministry of Education and Training issued a document requiring universities to review the combination and admission methods to ensure the basic knowledge and core competencies that candidates need to have to study.

The Ministry of Education and Training emphasized that 2025 is the first year to organize high school graduation exams and university admissions according to the new general education program. According to this program, at the high school level, students choose subject combinations according to knowledge groups, and may not study some subjects. Therefore, to ensure university admissions are in accordance with regulations, training quality and fairness among candidates, the Ministry requires training institutions to strictly implement current regulations and guidance documents.

"Schools should pay special attention to training programs, majors, and groups that use many combinations and admission methods. Schools that choose subject combinations for admission must ensure that they are based on the requirements of basic knowledge and core competencies that candidates need to have to study," the Ministry of Education and Training clearly stated the requirements.
