On November 25, the School of Interdisciplinary Sciences and Arts (VNU-SIS), Vietnam National University, Hanoi announced its admission method for 2026. Notably, this year the school will not use high school transcripts as an admission method for all training majors.
Last year, the school reviewed transcripts for 5/8 majors with two methods: combining transcripts with international language certificates or reviewing transcripts with aptitude test results.
In 2026, the school plans to use 5 main admission methods, including considering HSA test scores of Hanoi National University; considering high school graduation exam scores; considering high school graduation exam scores combined with aptitude test scores; considering high school graduation exam scores combined with international language certificates; direct admission and priority admission.
In addition, the school also considers admission for foreign candidates, candidates in the election, and candidates in the university preparatory program.
The school notes that with the method of considering combining high school graduation exam scores with aptitude test scores, the school applies it to design and creative majors ( fashion and creativity; digital graphics; sustainable interior design); visual arts (art photography; contemporary visual arts); architecture and landscape design.
The school has not yet announced the expected admission quota and combination for training programs/majors.
Previously, Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 also announced that in 2026, the school plans to stop considering transcripts for 17 majors, only considering transcripts for some specific majors.
In 2026, Hanoi University of Science and Technology also plans to reduce the consideration of academic records. Academic records have been used by the school to calculate the competency profile score when considering talent recruitment for many years, but this year it is expected to be replaced by a thinking assessment test score.
The Ministry of Education and Training has asked for opinions on whether to keep or abolish the consideration of academic records.
Previously in September, at the University Education Conference, the Ministry of Education and Training asked for delegates' opinions on whether to remove or keep the high school transcript admission process.
The Ministry of Education and Training has proposed two options: to abolish or continue to consider academic records. Statistics from the Ministry also show that in 2025, the admission method based on academic records will account for 42.4%, admission based on high school graduation exam scores will account for 39.1%, and the rest will be other methods.
During admission seasons, many schools have allocated more quotas for the method of using high school transcripts than the method of using graduation exam results. This has caused many conflicting opinions.
Among them, there are opinions that the admission method based on academic records is a reason for the negative situation of "beautifying academic records".
