Health training majors always attract many good students and have high entrance scores. However, the rate of excellent and good graduates in health majors, especially medical majors at public schools, is much lower than in other majors.

For many years now, at Hanoi Medical University, a long-standing medical school with top entrance scores, no student has graduated with excellent grades.
In the graduation ceremony of this school last August, only 46 out of more than 1,070 students graduated with honors (about 4.3%). The percentage of students with good grades was about 68.4%, the rest were average and average.
In 2024, among more than 1,103 students of Hanoi Medical University graduating in 2024, 97 students achieved excellent results (87 students in the medical program, 10 students in the bachelor program), accounting for 8.79%.
In 2023, the medical student class with the highest entrance score in the history of Hanoi Medical University (29.25 points) graduated but still no student was ranked excellent. The graduation rate of excellent general medicine is 14.59%, good is 73.36%.
At Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, in the graduation ceremony at the end of 2024 of 1,348 new graduates, including medical doctors, pharmacists and bachelors, there was only one excellent graduate, 68 students with good grades (the ratio of excellent and good students was only 5.48%), 909 students with good grades.
In the graduation ceremony last September of the School of Pharmacy, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City, among 472 graduates, there were 2 excellent students (0.42%); 41 excellent students (8.69%), 297 good students (62.92%) and 132 average students (27.97%).
During the graduation ceremony to award medical degrees to 336 new doctors in the final batch of 2024 at Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, there were 3 excellent graduates, accounting for 0.84%; the rate of excellent graduates reached 18.77% of the total number of graduates.

It is worth noting that there is a clear difference in the graduation rate of good and excellent graduates among health training institutions.
Schools with a long tradition and high entrance scores often record a very low rate of excellent and good students. Meanwhile, in some new schools, where entrance scores are lower, the rate of good, good and excellent students graduating tends to be high.
Duy Tan University, according to the 3rd public report of the 2023-2024 school year, the number of students in the VI major (including Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry) graduating with honors accounted for 5.08%, with good grades accounted for 21.95%, and with fair grades accounted for 62.69%.
According to information from the school, in the graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Dentistry at the School of Medicine, Duy Tan University at the end of 2024, there were 14 students with excellent grades (accounting for 23%) and 37 students with good grades (62%) out of a total of 60 graduates. Only 9 students graduating from the Faculty of Dentistry of this university were ranked below excellent.
Data from 2024 of Dai Nam University also recorded that the health sector had 433 graduates, including 1 excellent student; 40 excellent students, and 188 good students.
In the mid-year graduation ceremony of 2024 of Hong Bang International University with more than 1,500 doctors, pharmacists, engineers, architects, bachelors, the percentage of students graduating with good or above was 93%, of which nearly 40% achieved good and excellent grades.
Of the 391 new doctors and pharmacists of this school receiving their diplomas, 80 new doctors and pharmacists were recognized as excellent and good.
Since 2018, the Ministry of Education and Training has set a minimum score for the Education and Health sectors to ensure input quality.
In 2019, the minimum score for the health sector ranged from 18 to 21 points. In 2020, 2021, and 2022, the minimum score for the medical sector ranged from 19 to 22 points. In 2023 and 2024, the minimum score ranged from 19 to 22.5 points.

In 2025, the threshold score to ensure input quality for the medical and pharmaceutical industry will be from 17 to 20.5 points, a decrease of 2 points compared to 2024. This is also the lowest floor score since the Ministry set the floor score for this industry.
The minimum score for the medical and pharmaceutical industry in 2025 will decrease in the context of the average high school graduation exam score in the B00 group decreasing sharply compared to 2024.
