MU wants to replace Onana with Garcia. |
With the prospect of Andre Onana leaving Old Trafford this summer, Manchester United's board cannot ignore other options and Joan Garcia has emerged as the leading candidate for the position of MU's goalkeeper.
According to Mundo Deportivo , United have approached Joan Garcia to convince the 23-year-old goalkeeper to move to England, before making an official offer. Garcia has a £21 million release clause in his contract, which will rise to £25 million at the end of the transfer window. If he is called up to the Spain squad, this amount will increase by another £4.25 million.
Garcia, an Olympic gold medallist with Spain at the 2024 Paris Games, has become one of La Liga's brightest young talents. He played a key role in Espanyol's promotion last season and was voted the club's Player of the Season.
This season, Garcia continued to play impressively, keeping 7 clean sheets in 32 appearances, and twice won the La Liga "Save of the Month" award. In particular, his top performance against Real Madrid, helping Espanyol win 1-0, made the name of the goalkeeper born in 2001 even more noticeable.
Espanyol CEO Fran Garagarza acknowledged the possibility of Garcia leaving the club: “There are a lot of rumors, but nothing concrete has been done. We are not in a hurry and, importantly, Garcia is calm.”
As well as keeping an eye on Joan Garcia, Manchester United are also linked with Porto's No. 1 goalkeeper Diogo Costa. However, Costa's £64m release clause has put United's board on edge, while Manchester City are said to be ready to jump into the race if Ederson leaves.
