On June 11, in China, there was a hailstorm with raindrops up to 5 cm in diameter in the central part of the country, causing power outages in many places.
Hail was recorded in many districts in Jiangsu province. Many other provinces are also experiencing torrential rain.
A power line in a town in Jiangsu province was struck by lightning, causing a power outage for 150 households.
Heavy rain is forecast to continue until June 14, according to the Jiangsu Provincial Meteorological Bureau.
China's meteorological authorities on June 11 extended a blue alert, the lowest in China's four-tier warning system, for rainstorms in multiple regions including Guangxi, Guangdong, Hainan, Henan and Hubei provinces.
Previously, in August 2022, Xinjing newspaper published a video showing hail the size of chicken eggs in northwestern China, injuring 25 people and damaging hundreds of vehicles.
The hailstorm occurred at around 6:10 p.m. on August 9, 2022 (local time) in Tianjin County, Haixi Tibetan and Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province.
The hailstones were as big as chicken eggs, some were bigger than duck eggs. The video shows large hailstones continuously falling to the ground while many people were present at the folk song competition. Because the event was held outdoors, when the hailstones fell, people had no choice but to quickly hide under tarps and tents. However, the hailstones accompanied by strong winds caused holes in the roofs of many tents due to the large hailstones falling.
Several cars were also seen with broken front and rear windows. Images posted online showed dead sheep lying on the ground.
