On the afternoon of November 20, the press conference to open the 24th Vietnam Film Festival took place in Ho Chi Minh City. The event was chaired by Mr. Ta Quang Dong - Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Head of the Steering Committee of this Film Festival; Ms. Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Co-Head of the Steering Committee of the Film Festival; Mr. Dang Tran Cuong - Director of the Department of Cinema, Head of the Film Festival Organizing Committee and Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy - Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Co-Head of the Film Festival Organizing Committee.
According to the organizers, the 24th Vietnam Film Festival has selected 144 outstanding films from 42 units. Notably, the competition program includes 16 feature films, 36 documentaries, 14 scientific films and 21 animated films. In particular, the feature film segment witnessed the competition of a series of works with revenue of over hundreds of billions: Tunnel: The Sun in the Shadow, Death Battle in the Sky, Detective Kien, Mai... In particular, this race also has the appearance of Red Rain - a "phenomenon" of the Vietnamese box office in 2025 with revenue of over 700 billion VND. The work directed by Dang Thai Huyen is also the film chosen to open the Vietnam Film Festival on November 21.

The record revenue of Red Rain and the widespread effect that the film brings raise the question: will this help the work gain an advantage over other competitors at this year's Film Festival? Regarding this issue, Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong shared: "During this time, to avoid pressure on the jury, I would like to postpone the answer so that we can reflect and evaluate ourselves." He said this helps the jury have the space to choose correctly, fairly and transparently.
Regarding the question: will a series of works with revenue of hundreds of billions (including revolutionary films such as Red Rain, Tunnels ) be favored over other films?, the Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that art, especially cinema, must show the good, the beautiful, reflect life, the flow of the times; bring feelings and philosophies to the public. According to Mr. Ta Quang Dong, revenue is also one of the measures but not the decisive factor in the final result. He said that the jury has criteria to balance other issues: public, art, works, authors, times...

Mr. Ta Quang Dong answered questions raised at the press conference.

A series of Vietnamese films with revenue of hundreds of billions breathes new life into the 24th Vietnam Film Festival. At a press conference in Hanoi in early November, Mr. Ta Quang Dong was excited about the strong growth of Vietnamese cinema: "Looking back over the past two years since the 23rd Vietnam Film Festival, we can clearly see the strong vitality of our country's cinema: the number and quality of films have increased, the film market is vibrant, Vietnamese works are positively received at international film festivals and the young generation of filmmakers is full of courage and creativity. These achievements show that Vietnamese cinema is making a breakthrough on the path of professionalization, modernization and international integration."
The 24th Vietnam Film Festival will be held in Ho Chi Minh City from November 21 to 25. Notably, on the opening night of November 21, Ho Chi Minh City will receive a certificate of recognition as a global creative city by UNESCO in the field of cinema.
