The provincial police deployed 11 assault platoons with 534 officers and soldiers to flooded areas, coordinating with the commune-level police force to help people evacuate, raise their properties, and avoid flood damage.
The provincial police have deployed shock troops to assist in evacuating people, raising and protecting property from flooding, and regulating traffic at dangerous points. At the same time, the functional forces have organized to disperse troops and stand guard at key areas that are likely to be cut off for a long time to promptly approach and support people when necessary. The work of supplying food, food, drinking water and necessities is also being urgently deployed.
Gia Lai Provincial Police have evacuated 1,246 households and 4,270 people to avoid rising floods. Many officers and soldiers had to stay in the water for hours, and many cars were running continuously to get each person out of the danger zone.
According to the data of the Provincial Military Command, up to now, 1,203 households/3,649 people have been relocated and evacuated (of which 345 households/998 people have been brought to the gathering place, 858 households/2,651 people have been merged). In particular, in Tuy Phuoc commune, the military force and the local authorities have focused on building streams and reinforcing embankments by using sandbags to create temporary dikes, in order to divert the flow, prevent floodwater from rivers and streams from overflowing onto the roads, cutting off vital routes and especially directly protecting residential areas and people's property.
During the day, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan was present in Long Van area (Quy Nhon Bac ward) and some heavily flooded areas to check the flood situation and direct rescue work.
Long Van area was deeply flooded since the afternoon of November 18, and the water level continued to rise this morning. Along with that, many other areas in Tuy Phuoc, Quy Nhon, Kong Chro, Ia Pa, Ayun Pa, Krong Pa (formerly) had water levels rising above alert level 3 and alert level 4.
After grasping the general situation, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan has directed the sectors and localities to mobilize maximum forces and means to respond, rescue and bring people to safety. At the same time, requesting upstream reservoirs to stop releasing water to reduce flooding in downstream areas.
According to reports from localities in Gia Lai province, by 10:00 a.m. on November 19, due to the impact of heavy rain, flooding had occurred in a number of areas in the province. Currently, 10,256 households/42,525 people were flooded and isolated. The rain and floods also caused localized flooding of some overflow roads, landslides and damage to some traffic points and infrastructure works in the province.
The flood situation is still complicated, many areas continue to be isolated. Rescue forces, local authorities and people are working hard every minute to respond, hoping the situation will stabilize soon so that life can return to normal.
