After many hours of continuous heavy rain causing serious landslides, weather conditions in Put village area have changed positively, creating favorable conditions for authorities to speed up the search.
Seeing that the situation was favorable and the rain had stopped, the core forces of Military Region 5, including the Da Nang City Military Command, the Thanh My Defense Zone Command (CHKVPT), and the Hung Son Commune Military Command, urgently approached the scene. Search and rescue work was immediately deployed with the utmost effort to locate the missing victims.
After a period of relentless search efforts in complex and dangerous terrain conditions, at about 3 p.m., the authorities discovered and found the first body. The male victim was taken out of the landslide area for identification.
Currently, units are continuing to search for other victims and block off the scene to ensure absolute safety. Local authorities are also actively supporting the victim's family in funeral arrangements and implementing measures to overcome the consequences of the landslide.
As reported by Vietnam News Agency, the terrible landslide occurred at around 9:30 a.m. on November 14 in Put village (Hung Son commune) - the border with Ch'om commune and the old Gari commune. Although the weather was sunny, a large hill suddenly collapsed, taking with it an estimated 1 million cubic meters of rock and soil. The giant rock and soil completely buried a section of Highway 4 and the people's farming area. Authorities confirmed that 3 local people were in the field area at the time of the incident, suspected of being buried. The victims suspected of being buried include Hoih Z'Nut (born in 1977), Zozam Nho (born in 1997), and Briu Thi Tep (born in 1998).
Immediately after receiving information about the incident, rescue work was urgently deployed with the spirit of "4 on-site". The Forward Command Center was established at the scene to direct all search activities. The Da Nang City Military Command mobilized hundreds of officers and soldiers to coordinate with the police forces, Ga Ry Border Guard Station and Hung Son commune militia to participate in the search and rescue work. Specialized vehicles such as Flycam and service dogs were also mobilized to support observation and zoning of areas suspected of having victims, especially in steep terrain locations.
