The body of Mr. Pham Hong (born in 1961, residing in Con Se village, Nam Gianh commune, Quang Tri province) was discovered in the afternoon of the same day, about 1 km from the location of the boat accident towards the Gianh river estuary. The family brought the victim home for burial according to local customs; the local government also sent representatives to express condolences and support to the family.
As reported by VNA, on the afternoon of November 19, Mr. Pham Hong and his wife, Mrs. Mai Thi Thinh, went fishing on the Gianh River. When they reached the section of the river belonging to the Con Ket Residential Group (Bac Gianh Ward), the boat was suddenly sunk by a large wave. Mrs. Thinh was lucky to swim to shore, but Mr. Hong was swept away by the wave and went missing.
Immediately after the incident, Bac Gianh ward mobilized about 100 people including police, military , border guards, rescue forces and people to search along Gianh river for many days.
