The Biden administration also announced $125 million in arms commitments made using the Presidential Withdrawal Authority, which allows President Joe Biden to transfer surplus goods and services from the U.S. stockpile without congressional approval in an emergency.
The Pentagon said the weapons to be delivered to Kiev include additional ammunition for the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) air defense system, ammunition for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), 105- and 155-mm guns, TOW anti-tank weapons, Claymore anti-personnel mines, small arms and dozens of trucks.
Mr Biden is urging US lawmakers to approve more aid to Kiev. The Republican-led House this week approved only aid to Israel in its fight against Hamas.
Since Russia's February 2022 attack, the US has sent about $44 billion worth of security assistance to Ukraine.
