The three-phase ceasefire in Gaza, which took effect on January 19, has returned 33 Israeli hostages and about 2,000 Palestinian prisoners held by Tel Aviv.
The first six-week phase of the ceasefire is due to expire in two days. Israel announced on February 27 that it would send negotiators to Cairo to discuss extending this first phase.
Asked whether phase two would be rolled out, President Donald Trump said "nobody really knows" and "we'll see."
"Some of the talks are going quite well," the US leader said.
In addition, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also reaffirmed his support for the two-state solution, calling for the establishment of a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza, coexisting alongside Israel.
"I believe that the two-state solution is the only way to achieve lasting peace in the region," Prime Minister Starmer affirmed at a press conference when asked about the US proposal to control Gaza and force Palestinians to permanently relocate.
Mr. Trump's plan has been condemned by the international community and seen as ethnic cleansing.
According to Gaza's Ministry of Health , Israel's military offensive on the strip since October 2023 has killed more than 48,000 Palestinians, displaced nearly the entire Gaza population and caused a famine crisis.
