US to announce $500 million military aid package for Ukraine

According to Reuters news agency, the US government is planning to announce a new military aid package for Ukraine worth up to 500 million USD on June 27.

The military aid package will include infantry fighting vehicles, according to two unnamed US officials, as Ukraine steps up counter-offensive operations in its conflict with Russia.

The aid package is expected to include 30 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and 25 Stryker armored personnel carriers.

In addition, Ukraine will also receive ammunition for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), anti-tank weapons, including the Javelin system, as well as ammunition for the Patriot air defense system and Stinger short-range air defense missiles.

According to AP, the Pentagon said on June 20 that a calculation error had led to the shipments of weapons aid to Ukraine being overvalued by $6.2 billion. This led to the above difference being added to future military aid packages for Ukraine.

Russia has repeatedly called on the West, including the United States, to stop sending weapons to Kiev, asserting that continued military aid will only prolong the conflict.
