Male idol leaves NCT group due to sexual assault allegations

On the evening of August 28, SM Entertainment suddenly announced the removal of member Taeil from the boy band NCT.

The company said, “We can confirm that Taeil was recently charged in a criminal case related to sexual crimes.

While verifying the facts, we realized the seriousness of the incident, so we decided that Taeil cannot continue with group activities anymore. We discussed with Taeil and he will withdraw from NCT.

SM's announcement was shocking, because the company proactively announced that Taeil had to leave the group due to being involved in sexual assault, even though no Korean newspaper or media had reported it before.

Taeil was born in 1994. He debuted as a member of NCT's sub-unit NCT U in 2016, and has since been active as a member of the sub-unit NCT 127. The groups are all under SM Entertainment.
