In our country, the Party and the State have always been consistent in their viewpoint of developing social sciences in association with practice, serving the building of guidelines and policies, improving people's knowledge, promoting human cultural values, and building national "soft power". At the same time, they focus on the role of forecasting trends, solving practical problems, protecting the ideological foundation and orienting the country's development.
The Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, the leading research institution in the field of social sciences and humanities, has implemented many important projects, programs, and research topics, effectively contributing to policy consulting for the Party and State.
Over the past 5 years, the Academy has completed 331 policy advisory reports to send to Party and State agencies, a three-fold increase compared to the previous period. Notably, from March 2024, the Academy has regularly had policy advisory reports to serve the Government 's regular meetings.
Works and clusters of works were awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize by scientists of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences at the Exhibition "80 years of the journey of Independence - Freedom - Happiness".
However, it must be frankly admitted that social sciences to some extent have not kept up with the requirements of the country's development in the current context of globalization, international integration, and technological innovation. There is still a lack of comprehensive, large-scale research projects on all areas of life, especially new areas in science and technology.
For example, in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), many experts emphasize the urgency of timely research on the impact of AI on society.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Hoang Hai (Tran Nhan Tong Institute, Hanoi National University) said that the popularity of AI is changing social structures, labor markets, human relationships, individual and community behaviors, as well as cultural values and ethical standards.
Social science and humanities researchers are tasked with studying these impacts extensively, from AI creating new industries and eliminating traditional jobs, to AI's impact on mental health, social polarization, and the potential for manipulating public opinion through fake news and AI-generated disinformation campaigns.
These studies will be the premise to help Party and State agencies build a policy framework for AI development and governance, contributing to the successful implementation of the goals in the National Strategy on AI research, development and application to 2030 set by the Government.
During the discussion session on October 29, the 10th session of the 15th National Assembly, delegate Hoang Minh Hieu said that the field of social sciences and humanities with many issues and requirements arising from practice has not received due attention.
The delegate asked, the phenomenon of people with knowledge of digital technology, successful businessmen, famous artists... taking advantage of people's trust to produce and trade fake drugs, fake cosmetics, fake functional foods, fake milk, evading taxes, or deliberately assisting the above-mentioned acts... is it due to the lack of social science research on culture and human behavior as a foundation for timely measures of political education, ethical guidance and legal sanctions to prevent and deter.
Because social science is an important factor in forming the superstructure, directly affecting social consciousness, and useful for the leadership of Party committees at all levels and state management agencies.
The Institute will promote research to serve the implementation of the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress, identified as the Congress of the era of national development, strengthen research and forecasting of the world situation, international relations and new trends such as digital capitalism, digital socialism, and the quintessence of human intelligence to apply to the country's development process.

As a key and pioneering unit in social sciences and humanities, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences is actively implementing many activities to innovate scientific research and improve the effectiveness of policy consulting to serve the country's development in the new era.
Professor Le Van Loi, President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, said that in the coming time, the Institute will implement a number of major research orientations focusing on the fields of ideology, culture, history, society, religion, ethnicity, literature, language, and human geography to advise and propose solutions to preserve and promote national cultural values, revive culture, and comprehensively develop the Vietnamese people. At the same time, it will study major and urgent theoretical and practical issues of the country, especially perfecting and developing a socialist-oriented market economy, building a socialist rule-of-law state of the people, by the people, for the people, and building socialist democracy. The studies will assess the impact of organizational arrangements and propose solutions to manage social development in the new period. Along with that, the Institute will promote research to serve the implementation of the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress, identified as the Congress of the era of national development, strengthen research and forecast of the world situation, international relations and new trends such as digital capitalism, digital socialism, and the quintessence of human intelligence to apply to the country's development process.
Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation has removed all barriers and created momentum for science to develop. Strong and comprehensive innovation in social science and humanities research is a practical contribution to creating a foundation for an ethical and civilized society, serving as a fulcrum for economic development and building a strong and prosperous country.
