Mr. Dang Xuan Tung is Bachelor of Rehabilitation Engineering ( PHCN ) , major in Physical Therapy (VLTL), working at the Department of Pediatrics, Hue City Rehabilitation Hospital since 2006. With a spirit of learning , he always looks for opportunities to improve his expertise.
May 2022 marked a turning point in his professional journey when he participated in a 9-month basic Occupational Therapy (OT)/Pharmacy training course at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy. The training course was organized within the framework of the component "Strengthening human resources and Pharmacy services of health facilities in the three provinces of Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue and Quang Nam " under the project "Support to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities in provinces heavily sprayed with Agent Orange" (Integration Project 1).

"I registered to attend the course with the goal of improving my own capacity, expanding my professional scope, meeting the human resource needs of the working unit on HĐTL and further improving the quality of PHCN. for the sick and the disabled!" - Mr. Tung said.
Rehabilitation is a specialized field of rehabilitation, which uses skill exercises and assistive devices, combined with adjustments to the living environment, to help people with disabilities achieve the ultimate goal of rehabilitation, which is to improve daily living functions. study, work and social integration. In the world , HĐTL has a history of more than 100 years. However, in Vietnam, HĐTL is still a very new field, when formal training only started in 2017.
"I got acquainted with HĐTL through a few courses in the Bachelor of Physical Therapy - Rehabilitation. It was not until this training course that I was able to approach HĐTL in a basic and systematic way. The course provided us with an overview of HĐTL, including concepts, HĐTL practice frameworks according to international standards, and techniques applied to a variety of diseases, from children to adults such as: cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder, developmental delay, stroke, spinal cord injury, upper limb injury... " Mr. Tung shared.
HĐTL is a field closely related to clinical practice, so during the training process, Mr. Tung and the students practice the techniques regularly. In particular, HĐTL is a field that works directly with people, so soft skills are also indispensable.
"Communication skills are not only taught in a separate subject, but are also imparted throughout the training process. I learned this skill from the way teachers communicate with patients: patient, soft-spoken, caring, creating a comfortable atmosphere so that they can feel secure and open up. I also realized that the combination of professional techniques and soft skills such as communication skills will bring the best intervention for patients," Mr. Tung confided.

With the spirit of continuous learning, in October 2023, Mr. Dang Xuan Tung continued to participate in a continuous training course on Evaluation Techniques and the use of some supporting tools - important element in HĐTL, helping to adjust the living environment, increasing the ability to participate in daily activities of people with disabilities.
Contribute to PHCN in the community
With the knowledge accumulated from training courses , From October 2023 to April 2024, within the framework of the Integration Project 1, technician Dang Xuan Tung provided technical intervention with HDTL for 31 people with disabilities, with significant improvements in daily living functions .
He said: "Providing rehabilitation services in the community is different from providing rehabilitation services in health facilities. For example, in hospitals, most patients are in the acute or subacute stage, while the majority of disabled people in the community have chronic conditions, having been sick or injured for a long time. The intervention time at home is also less than in hospitals. Therefore, the intervention goals and approaches also need to be adjusted accordingly."

KTV Dang Xuan Tung shared his experience with colleagues , helping them get acquainted with and apply the practice of HDTL in the context of community rehabilitation. With his professional support, from July to September 2025, 07 medical staff provided effective home rehabilitation services , helping 30 people with disabilities in Quang Tri province, Hue city and Da Nang city improve their daily living functions. Working at the Pediatrics Department, Hue City Rehabilitation Hospital, technician Nguyen Thi Ha I learned a lot from my colleagues . She shared :
" When I first started intervening in the community, I was very confused about setting goals, because a disabled person has many problems that need intervention. Thanks to Mr. Tung, I learned how to set feasible intervention goals, putting less pressure on children. For example, with children, priority should be given to eating and playing activities. For difficult activities such as dressing , I instructed parents so that parents could guide their children . In addition, I was positively impressed by Mr. Tung's way of communicating with patients : Always patient and gentle in all situations, even with difficult and uncooperative disabled people . Thanks to that, he builds trust in them and convinces them to cooperate well in the intervention process."
Future orientation
KTV Dang Xuan Tung's learning journey is still being extended with the study of the PHCN specialist program 1. to improve knowledge, specialized techniques, and update the latest practices in PHCN.
Recalling the training courses he attended, Mr. Tung said: " Each course takes place in a limited time , but the value it brings is infinite . Besides professional knowledge, each training course gives us the opportunity to expand our professional network and motivate us to learn and continue to improve ourselves. It has been 2-3 years since the closing date of the HĐTL courses, the students still maintain contact in the online group, sharing and exchanging professional issues, supporting each other to learn and improve work efficiency!"
He also shared: "My biggest wish is that HDTL in Vietnam will be implemented in a more systematic and methodical manner, and at the same time, more technical services will be paid for by health insurance. This will create more space and necessary resources for us to perform the best techniques for patients"./.
