When temperatures rise, many people turn on fans all night to help them fall asleep more easily. However, experts say sleeping with fans on in hot weather can do more harm than good.

Accordingly, although electric fans are cost-effective cooling devices compared to other devices such as air conditioners, they can cause some harm to the body.

Below are some of the harmful effects of turning on the fan while sleeping on hot nights, according to the Manchester Evening News (UK).

Sử dụng quạt suốt cả ngày có thể làm khô mũi và cổ họng

Using a fan all day can dry out your nose and throat.

Allergic

Because fans move air around a room, they can pick up dust, pollen, and other allergens. If you have allergies, using an electric fan can make your symptoms worse.

Sleep expert Martin Seeley recommends wiping the blades of electric fans before turning them on. People can also buy fans that have air filters to help reduce pollen and dust in the room. Regular cleaning of the bedroom will also help reduce the likelihood of allergies.

Causing nasal congestion

Using a fan all day can dry out your nose and throat, causing your body to produce more mucus to stay hydrated. To prevent this from happening, people should try to drink at least 2 liters of water a day.

Dry eyes and irritation

The dry air created by electric fans can cause dry, irritated eyes. This condition can be worse for contact lens wearers.

Neck pain and muscle pain

People with muscle pain should avoid exposure to the wind from a fan at night. Accordingly, the cool air blowing on the sore muscles can cause them to tense and cramp, leading to more pain, according to the Manchester Evening News .
