Neymar injured and infected with COVID-19, out indefinitely

Brazilian press reported that 33-year-old striker Neymar tested positive for COVID-19 and has not trained with Santos since June 5.

Neymar is currently out indefinitely, and doctors cannot give an exact time frame for his recovery.

It is likely that this star will not be able to play for Santos again because his current contract with the team will end on June 30 and they have not yet decided to extend it.

Neymar has played more than 700 times in his career and scored more than 450 goals. But since leaving PSG in 2023, Neymar has been plagued by injury problems and has only played a total of seven games for Al Hilal in two seasons in Saudi Arabia.

By early 2025, Neymar officially returned to Santos with the hope that his "old home" would help him regain his inspiration for playing football and regain his form to prepare for the 2026 World Cup.

But in the past six months, this striker has only played 12 matches for Santos, scoring 3 goals and the team is struggling in the relegation zone of the Brazilian Championship.

Most recently, in the match where Santos lost 0-1 to Botafogo at home at Estadio Urbano Caldeira on June 2, Neymar was in the starting lineup after a long injury but he was disappointing.

In that match, Neymar was sent off for deliberately scoring a goal with his... hand. With such inconsistent form, Neymar is unlikely to be called back by coach Ancelotti to play for the Brazilian national team.
