The first direct talks between Russia and Ukraine in more than three years are scheduled to take place in Istanbul, Türkiye's largest city, on May 15, RT reported.
President Vladimir Putin signed an executive order sending senior Russian officials to the talks.

The Russian delegation includes: Assistant to Russian President Putin, Mr. Vladimir Medinsky (Head of the delegation), Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin, Director of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Russian General Staff Igor Kostyukov, Deputy Minister of Defense Alexander Fomin.
In addition, Mr. Putin also sent a support team of experts consisting of senior military and civilian officials and diplomats, including Mr. Andrey Zorin from the General Staff, Ekaterina Podobreveskaya from the Presidential Office, in charge of Humanitarian Policy, Alexander Polishchuk (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and Vladimir Shevtsov (Ministry of Defense).

According to Ukrainian media reports, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Chief of Staff of the President of Ukraine Andrey Yermak, and the Ministers of Defense and Foreign Affairs are expected to arrive in Istanbul. However, the exact composition of the Ukrainian negotiating team will likely be appointed by Zelensky on the spot on May 15.
On May 13, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said that in potential talks with Kiev, Moscow wants to discuss "a sustainable solution to the situation, first of all, addressing the roots of this conflict and related issues, ensuring recognition of the recently developed realities, including the annexation of new territories to Russia."
Deputy Foreign Minister Ryabkov did not make any predictions about the outcome of the discussions, but stressed that Moscow is committed to negotiating "seriously and responsibly."
